He's far right?  

In the American context, he's left.  People that I know who are republicans don't like him because he's far too left for their taste.  

In context, he's just left of center: it only appears otherwise, because the Republican Party has shifted much farther to the right.

I think we have entered the era of the unpopular president, where nearly half of the nation will despise whoever is elected. Any honest assessment will have to be a retrospective, somewhat unfortunately.

I don't know, from the outside it looks that Obama made some needed adjustments (gay marriage comes to mind) but I've hard from American people that they aren't really happy with him so I dunno

Obama is the only president I would get a beer with.. He seems more of an average joe.. Now I don't know if that makes him a better president
