How about we stop caring about the gender...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Well in my case, I am a male and like to portray my own gender.  I have no desire to portray myself as a female.  Nothing wrong with it, just doesn't work for me.

It really is that simple...

I just don't understand your logic at all. So, females are just a completely foreign concept to you? You're not "identifying as a female" the character you're controlling in a game is female.

I notice your profile is Auron from FFX. Did you only use the male characters becuase you didn't want to identify as a female?

Just because you don't understand it doesn't make it any less simple.  I am male, I don't have a desire to identify as female.  I take role playing pretty seriously in my head and I get an error message everytime.

I have tried playing RE3, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Final Fantasy X-2, and others and guess what they all have in common with me....I never finished them due to lack of immersion.  My wife however is a Tomb Raider fan so when I got Tomb Raider on PS4 for her, I played it and finished it because I liked it that much.  Still wasn't immersed into the world, but I had fun and bought RotTR because of that.  For this reason, I do still have hope for Horizon Zero Dawn.

As for FFX, I played as Tidus.  The other character were my traveling companions and the actions in battle was me (Tidus) giving strategic orders to my team.  Not that hard to counter that point, nice try though.

And in response to Hiku, don't worry.  I fully understand female gamers who don't want to play as male.  I hold nothing against them and they are the reason I still give games like Tomb Raider a shot.  In fact I sympathize with them just as much as our OP.

You are not alone, I feel the same as you. I have a hard time identifying with female characters as well, and it really takes from the experience for me. Nothing wrong with it, just not for me. Still bumbed about Horizon Zero Dawn (yes i am still buying it, but it automatically loses points on my enjoyment meter).

I already went over this in another thread and don't feel like getting bombarded with scenarios and questions that I have a simple answer for but since people don't agree they just keep asking why, even though I made it very clear, so Im just gonna leave it at that. (Bet i still get bombarded)

Just know you are not alone brother.

Thanks Bro! I really appreciated!

I dunno where youre coming from, OP. Playing a female is still somewhat of a novelty, tbh. I just played as Ciri for the first time in the Witcher 3, and it felt so new. So cool. I dunno that ive ever actually played as a female character in a third person action game before.
