Good for them that they sold out so fast. But how many did they sell?
It sounds like the day one stock was VERY limited if they were able to sell out in under 14 minutes at that price.
I wonder if they are producing 10k, 100k or more every month.

Also this:

"Oculus has announced that backers of their 2012 Rift DK1 Kickstarter campaign will receive a limited edition version of Oculus Rift consumer for free."

They have compromised several units beforehand, then they have to care about the people pre-ordering this stuff.

Remember that Oculus Rift started as a Kickstart, the PSVR was all R&D by Sony.

Truly a great question Platina-San. I am also wondering this very same question. Hopefully not exceeding $600. Hopefully $400 at best.

Sony be like:

Seriously PS VR with rumored 299$ price point will slaughter the Oculus Rift in sales.

Does anybody pay attention anymore? Too high an entry cost

I didn't expect it to be cheap but that price is ridiculous. Ill let early adopters take the fall while the rest of us wait for revisions and sensible pricing.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

God damn that's expensive (as expected)

This is like them giveing up before hand.
PS VR is going to take up like 80% of the VR market.

At a 599$ price point this will never become a huge success story for them.
Oculus Rift lose the early adoption rate race.

Sorry.. But console users don't spend huge ammounts on EXPENSIVE peripherals like PC users do..   Console users complain about $79 controllers..    PC  gamers buy $200 keyboards..   and $200 mice..  and $400-$500 GPUs..     I just don't see a large amount of console owners shelling out $300+ on PS VR..      So I dont think dont think Sony willg et 80% of the market.. Oculus will likely be the leader in 2016....    especially if the PS VR is $399 or more..

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

Wasn't it inevitable it was gonna cost this much? It's a completely new thing and until loads of people buy it the price won't be coming down anytime soon, welcome to the expensive future :)

That's quite a bit more than I thought. And from the description of what it includes, the Touch controllers aren't included so once they launch you'll have to pay for them aswell.

That doesn't look good for both the HTC Vive and PSVR. Vive will include the same hardware than the Rift plus the two tracking devices that scan the room and a pair of controllers. So it will be even more expensive.

And PSVR has the same than the Rift plus the "External Processing Unit", so while the headset may be cheaper, the package can cost the same or more.

2016 may be the year of VR, but it will definitely not be the year VR became available to everyone.
