Well, thanks to your very insightful post. I jumped on a deal they were having at Gamestop for today only. They have the new Supercharger starter packs for $39 and you get a free starter pack of your choice for past games. Asked the employee there if the bases were interchangeable. He said no. Each version will only work for that version and for the console it was sold for. I found that hard to believe. So I followed the same scenario they work with Disney Infinity. I got an Xbone Supercharger set and a PS4 Trap Team set for everything else. Another employee told me the same thing when I was buying my Disney Infinity base. That they won't work on other games. It amazes me how little these kids know about gaming.
So, for $50 I got two starter sets, with bases that could work with almost all the consoles I have and a Kaos Trophy. Will buy a 360 base later on so I can get those Achievements too.
Not in a rush to buy characters now. Still have my Infinity collection to finish.

That is a pretty damn good price for those 2 games, and not sure if you picked up what I meant in my long post, but that Superchargers repose of Stealth elf should work fine while playing Trap Team, only when she is being ported into the game she'll most likely just get the name "special" Stealth Elf, since the game will recognise that she has some repose done to her which it doesn't know about.
Playing over Trap Team myself on the PS4 now a bit sad at the elemental gates in it (the toy push element of the games), basically in the first game there was 8 elemental gates which needed to have that element of skylander in play to open, they unlock small extra areas with extra loot and often hats to equip, in giants they added a requirement of some area's to have a Giant figure (which you got with the game) so as long as the single giant you had hasn't died on that stage you could unlock all the areas with it (the game also has the 8 elemental gates still), Swap force requires you to have a giant and 8 of the swappable figures to get everything (but the swapable figures were moderately priced (€13 max) but in trap team the game requires you have 10 seperate trap masters to open pretty much any areas (the original non giant/swap elemental gates are gone completely) each trap master costs between €20-30 so yeah.... €180 or so of closed content, sad times.
Whine aside, the story mode is completely finishable with just the stuff in the box, always! so that isn't a worry.
Also that only thing you got extra Pbroy... that Trap is very specific in what it is used for, and has no use until very very late into the Trap Team game, also it does little to nothing in Superchargers, the Traps and their contained monster characters are a feature that is pretty much exclusive in use to the trap team game. (sorry for not mentioning this earlier!) but yeah, traps = for trap team.
Always point this out to people getting into the game btw, but if you are playing it with someone else it's a great idea to keep an eye out for a figure called Whirlwind, she is from the very first game and can be easily found in 2nd hand stores for under €1 but the thing is she is in my experience the only skylander who can heal others (a traped character can also heal, but trap team exclusive!) but yeah, if you fancy getting far in the games on harder nightmare'y difficulties it's a good idea to pick up whirlwind, that way when you get out of combat you can sub her onto the portal, heal up both figures you are using, then take Whirlwind off again until the next time you get a breather area and can heal up with her.

heh, if you lived in Ireland, she's .80c but I'm sure you can find this figure in most 2nd hand game stores near you!
