lower that number, and you act like they have to choose.

If the rumors are true then I think a unified software library and the ability to play all your games on the big screen or on the go would be gimmick enough.  I do hope they use those scrolling shoulder buttons like on that patent though because it would add a lot of convience in gameplay.

Aaaaaaaaannnnd that would be the death of the NX.

There are only 2 ways that works and both of them are failures.

1. It's just a handheld with remote play for the home console. If that's the case, nobody cares. It's not an effective gimmick to attract attention to the system. Remote play is old news.

2. The power gap between the handheld and the home console is fairly small, small enough to allow them to play nearly the same games. This means that either the home console is weak, or the handheld is expensive, maybe both.

If the console is weak than so be it, as long as it has a strong and effective marketing campaign, a nice price point for what the device offers and a large library of compelling software than it can be a successful device without being a powerhouse.

Gimmick is literally anything used to attract attention so a draw and a gimmick for the most part are the same thing.

Semantically speaking yes, but there is a big difference between making something to draw attention, and making a desirable product.

OK and using ur example, Wii with its motion controls was a desirable product, it offered new ways to play and allowed millions of people who previously weren't interested in gaming to play. Whether or not u believe it was a fad doesn't matter, Wii was a desirable product that sold over 100 million units of software and close to a billion units os software.

Four things need to happen for 3rd party support, not just one. First, the console needs to be at or over PS4/Xbox One power. Second, it needs to have a standard controller. Third, it needs to allow third parties the same amenities as the other two guys do such as DLC policies etc. and four, it needs to heave decent HDD space so as to ensure that DLC will actually have a place to go.

If Nintendo wants third party, they will get it. We haven't seen them do that though since the SNES. Sure, they've always wanted it, but it's obvious to everyone that they haven't made it a top priority.

Nope, if anything, raise that number. The PS4 is at 35.3 million units as of 12/26 and it sold 10.9 million units between 1/1/2015 and 11/21/2015. Even if sales stay flat (which they won't) the PS4 is at over 46 million by 11/21/2016.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Then the word of mouth is that Nintendo is blind to it's own issues and once again failed to make a console powerful enough to meet the demands of modern gaming. The vocal hardcore crowd ignores it, as do third parties. Initial sales are weak which means it's risky for Nintendo to spend large budgets on big games, the library suffers and we have a Wii U 2.0.

Yes but then most of the ''hardcore games'' sale like shit so they stop making them for NX, but keep making the just dance, skylander like games. Power is not the real reason why the wii U isn't getting 3rd partie support.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I don't see why they wouldn't be if it's 300 bucks and more powerful than PS4.

Edit: Yes I think 3rd parties will be on board at the begining but if the consumer fails to buy the NX then I can see 3rd party support quickly dropping like the Wii U. In the scenario you described I don't see how it could flop though.

The NX will be released way too early for anyone, particularly third-party developers, to pay attention to it.

Third parties are on board, but only to test the waters.

Ubisoft provides respectable support: Rayman launch title (timed exclusive), just dance, and assassins creed port. Promises support but not mature title support (splinter cell, far cry, and watch dogs) if assassins creed port fails.

Activision provides solid support: skylanders (exclusive content), cod port, and surprisingly a destiny 2 port. Will promise support but will check sales of cod and destiny for mature title support.

EA gives weak support: FIFA port, Star Wars battlefront port, and madden port. Will wait on battlefront to see how mature titles play out, but ultimately will say they "go where the audience is"

OTHER:
Warner bros has a lego game in production (possibly lego city undercover 2)
Sega has a sonic exclusive in the pipeline
Platinum has bayonetta 3 in the pipeline (possibly exclusive)
Tecmo Koei will co develop a game
Namco bandai has a project cars 2 port (made by SMS)
Capcom, Bethesda, take two, and rockstar are going to wait to see how the console plays out
