The 3DS is a disappointment when it comes to specs. 240p screen, mediocre battery life, ridiculously low RAM amount, and so on.

It is now 2016, and I think the wide range of options for a handheld device is very beneficial for Nintendo...that is, if they pay attention.

Now, without a do, here are the specs I think Nintendo's next handheld should be.

1) a 720/1080p screen(and a lower resolution screen for the bottom[if they make the handheld like the 3DS])

2) No less than 1 GB of ram. 2 or 3 is recommended

3) A processor along the lines of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400/600 series(slightly less wouldn't hurt).

4) No 3D. The gimmick isn't needed. Even the "improved stable 3D'' is still flawed. Besides, 3D isn't that much of an attraction point for people nowadays.

5) Improved OS. The 3DS(and Wii U) really need a better OS for their future replacements. Getting a friendcode and needing the other person to add you is extremely frustrating. An ID and message board would be much better( and if people care so much, they can put restrictions for the kiddies).

6) Reasonable price tag- Nintendo screwed up when they made the 3DS $250 in the beginning. If they're making a regular sized handheld and a larger version, they should make the prices at the most 200.

Now, some of you may think the specs I am recommending will make the NX handheld too much. However, many gadgets nowadays can easily have said specs(and better) for a low price. Demanding top-tier specs is out of the question. However, after seeing many budget tablets and phones be much more powerful than the 3DS and only cost along the lines of $50-200 is ridiculous.

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't stick with weak hardware.

The 3ds wasnt really weak when it first came out. It was in the middle. Also, they like creating new ways to play. The only way they could male your devise is if they didnt include any unique feature (3d), amd then it would fail just like every other "hardcore handheld ( vita, shiel, etc). The nintendo handheld series sell well because nintendo innovates.

The Gameboy Color and Advance both sold like gangbusters and all they did was up the specs and tech. They don't need to do what you're saying to do well as long as they keep making compelling software. As Al Nilsen likes to say, the name of the game is the game.

Those devises had no competition. The ds had the psp as competition amd sold better because of innovation. Same as the 3ds compared to the vita. And color was an innovation.

That also may as well have been 100 years ago. In the late 1990s, having a Discman that could play 13 songs on it was considered state of the art entertainment outside of the house, lol. Mobile chips were in their infancy back then.

Today my 6 year old nephew has a device that is far more powerful than what my 20 pound cutting edge PC was back then in his pocket.

I would like to say no stylus or touch screen anymore as well.

Why not? Nintendo has used a second screen that doubles as a touchscreen on three of their devices now, and a stylus is the most precise way to use the touchscreen.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

And the market has changed again. That's why the rejected the 3DS, That's why it failed to grab the mainstreams, That's why they had to do a big price cut after release.

The financial suicide will be releasing another gimped device like the 3DS, and the same can be said about the Wii U.

Wii U was not really that gimped when it comes to visuals. I would be happy with PS4 visuals. It was gimped by yet another hard to develop for system and Nintendos business strategies that they learned in preschool.

3DS has done well. But struggled and still struggles due to lack of games and advertising those games in the West.

Wii U visuals could have been better without Wii backward compatibility and no gamepad.

Edit: Example Star Fox Zero. Without the gamepad the game could look a lot better, and not just graphically, but better animations, more enemies, better AI, etc.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

If your system can't competently run modern third party games at reasonable equity with other consoles of the day -- then it's gimped.

Imagine the Super NES couldn't run games like Street Fighter 2 or Final Fantasy VI because the chipset was just a moderate upgrade on the NES.

Well I never personnally ever use the touch screen or stylus.Dont buy games that use them either.

I like games that use them, specially if the controlls are precise enough. And considering that Nintendo has a lot of plans for their mobile market, and those titles will have to use a touchscreen, that part is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Color was not an innovation because Game Gear and Linx etc. had done it years earlier. Color was just upping the tech. It was a gameboy with... color. Nothing innovative about that at the time.

The DS did NOT beat PSP because of hardware innovation. It beat PSP because of Iwata's idea of creating software for casuals. He wisely saw a market that wasn't being exploited and made software for it. But where is that demographic now? Is there a segment of consumer that will do something like that again? If you look at the console market right now, all I see are core gamers left. We are the ones who are buying games now. Casuals buy iPhones. So, imo, Nintendo doesn't have the option anymore. They're going to have to go the Gameboy Advance rout and try to sell core gamers a device that they'd want to purchase. Mom and Gramma aren't going to be playing with virtual dogs on a dedicated handheld anymore.

What you said doesn't describe wii u at all.

Ever since getting a oled tv and a oled phone. Theres no going back to lcd. The quality is so much better.
So I know its wishful thinking but lets hope we get oled instead of lcd handheld. Will improve battery life too

I actually hope nintendo aim for 149$ and sell them at a tiny loss or just barely break even point (not at profits) and make the device as powerfull as they can for 149$.

Then aim for profits to come from the software sales.

It needs to have 1 screen of 540p resolution or higher. Be as powerfull as the Vita at the least.
It needs to use Micro SD cards, so people can use it for media files ect if they want to watch movies on it.
