It's funny because Monolith Soft has two development studios, one in Tokyo which develops the Xenoblade games, and one in Kyoto that acts as a supplementary developer to Nintendo EPD and the main studio. Tke Kyoto Studio was founded right after Nintendo bought Monolith Soft, from brand new employees. |
They work on both projects, interchanged. You're reaching right here.
And to be frank, Tropical Freeze was pretty bland (art style/graphics).

Well said. Monolith has always really had that issue. Hopefully their newest project is more focused.

Wow.
Monolith is better, because they actually release games.
Retro still beats Monolith as far as I'm concerned...
The first Xenoblade and the first Prime are among my very favorite games...
I'm one of those that feels that Retro's output has been more consistent...
Even the Retro game I consider the weakest (Prime 3) is still a pretty good game overall...
I haven't played Xenoblade 2 yet, but I'm not expecting to enjoy it nearly as much as the first...
And I ended up disappointed with Xenoblade X, so much so that I've still yet to finish it...
While I didn't get to play Disaster Day of Crisis, an LP I watched left me with a very negative impression...
Xenoblade Chronicles is probably the best game either of these studios has made, but if we're talking consistency, then there's no competition...
Have a nice day...

Tropical Freeze looks good, but artistically, Monolith Soft is unbeatable
Only some japanese wizards can create such magic. Westerners can't do these things.
All I am saying is that Xenoblade 2 has me hooked for over 100 hours and counting...I mean HOOKED!
So who is better...retro or Mono?
The answer is yes.

So we know now they can do open-world action-adventure and RPGs, but what other genres have they dug into? |
While under Nintendo?Only RPG really.Games that only they have made so far are Xenoblade and assists like BOTW.But there are teo caveats to this:They are a newer studio compared to Retro(while under Nintendo) so they will have fewer games as a consequence. And both Xenoblade games only sold 1 million units, so their budget is smaller due to this(and thus their games wont be able to compete with other games that have more money purely in terms of graphics). That may and probably will change with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, since that game , seemingly, is bound to sell way more than the other Xenoblade games, with 2 millions being realistic.
They may tap into a different type of game with what they used to do with their new project(which seems to not be related to Xenoblade), but I think we are at least a year away from some sort of announcement.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
