Hahaha because if I didn't have to look down at the controller than I would totally forget that I'm not really on planet Mira.

Basically anything new in terms of controls breaks immersion, gotta stick to the same control scheme from 1997.

So essentially if you have to manage things you're breaking immersion anyways.

And though it depends on person, looking at the game pad actually made me felt more immersed.

I wouldn't even bother arguing with this guy anymore. It's obvious he's never drove a car in his life and can't multi task. Look at the road, mirror, gauges, and radio all can be done safely and with ease. I would love if prime came to the wii u with gamepad support. Prime is one of the best games of all time but had to be paused alot to look at the map! If the map was on the gamepad it would have been more immersive. I feel like he's either 1: hasn't played games like x or spatoon or 2: can't multi task at all and gets lost and confused the instent he takes his eyes off the TV. And yes I hope NX keeps the gamepad! Even just for a map it does ALOT to  help immerse you in the game and not having to pause to go to a menu.

Quite a bit of your post is, at best, ridiculous projecting of what you think I'm like, but to tackle most of it in order, I'm 21, own a car, and have been driving since 17. I'd be more than willing to take a picture of my copy of Xenoblade X and provide whatever proof you wish that I've played through quite a bit of it (on the last affinity mission before chapter 11 now) if you seriously think I'm making stuff up, and I'm perfectly capable of "multitasking" in so far as humans are able. Not entirely sure why you think I'm not worth debating with; I've been quite respectful throughout, and I'd ask that you extend the same courtesy to me.

In regards to the parts of your post that do deal with the argument, I think you're confusing "immersion" with being able to handle something. Taking my eyes off of a TV doesn't confuse me, and I'm not really sure how that would confuse anyone or where this assertion even came from. What I'm saying is that taking my eyes off the TV does more to remind me that I'm playing a video game than simply switching to a menu on the same screen. I can easily play Xenoblade, or Splatoon, or drive a car, or whatever else; but there's never a sense of getting lost in the experience with something like Silent Hill 2. Which is fine for some games; I'm simply arguing I think X would have been improved without the Gamepad.

It never gets to the point where you truly believe you're on the planet, but in playing certain video games (examples I'll reference are Amnesia and Silent Hill 2) your mind becomes less aware that you are actively in a living room/bedroom/wherever. You become so focused and wrapped up in the world you're playing in that you aren't as aware of your current surroundings. Having to consistently look down to a controller, and, by extension, look over my table, my floor, and my chair, means that I never stop being aware of my surroundings.

I'd argue that without the Gamepad (and without a lot of the clipping issues that are extremely prevalent in X), it would be possible to get lost in the same way, but hey. That'll differ from person to person.

I prefer Platinum Games ;)

They both release one game every 100 years... So I tend to prefer studios that actually make games, like Intelligent System or partners like Platinum games (lol).

In the case of Monolith Soft, I can actually see why, since Xenoblade Chronicles X is huge, but Retro Studios? They only made freakin' Donkey Kong... Are they dead or what?

Only Retro Studios has issues releasing software. Both released their first game in 2002, Monolithsoft now has 26 releases, Retro has 9.

With the exception of 2014, 2009, and 2007, 2005. and 2002 Monolithsoft has headed and co-develops between 2 and 4 releases per year since the release of Xenosaga Episode 1.  So for 9 of the 14 years Monolithsoft have had 2 or more releases per year.

Retro Studios heads or co-develops only 2-3 games per generation, with 3 of their 9 releases being port work, and a 4th of those 9 being strictly consultation.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Retro Studios vs. Monolithsoft.

Lets look at it this way.

This generation, Retro Studios released Donky Kong Country TF and re-designed some old tracks to be ported over to Mario Kart 7.

Monolithsoft developed or co-developed:
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Splatoon
Pikmin
Project X Zone
Project X Zone 2
Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer

Which releases do you like more, the Monolithsoft releases or Retro?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Monolith is a larger studio than Retro, so it's a pretty unfair comparison. Retro's output is of an unbelievable high quality. Monolith do a good job too, is this really a competition?
