Forums - Gaming Discussion - Eurogamer reviews PS4 and Xbone in 2015

And yet Bloodborne was still by far better than anything that came out on both Wii U and XOne in terms of exclusivity.

This gen is even more so dictated by third party titles and PS4 has that in the bag at the moment, so next year doesn't need to be special at all. Neither does the year after that.

PS4 will once again dominate, Period! happy new year.

Another one of these Pro Xbox articles, ignoring the fact that the Xbox One had no exclusives up until the holiday season. And ignoring the countless stream of games not avaible on Xbox from Japan and independent devolopers. Bloodborne is the highest rated exclusive on Metacritic.

They also dont make another article for Nintendo like they dont exist

Its not just about Japan and a Niche game. Its clear as day which company is trying and which one is sitting in the high chair watching.

Indeed it is. Microsoft sitting in that big comfy chair since xbox... 1. Pretty obvious looking at how many games published, new franchises established, and studios founded/bought/expanded.

Not sure why there's so much salt after reading the articles. Is it that bad to point out Sony's first party lineup was rather lackluster this year? Or that the system is selling partly due to word of mouth and Microsoft mistakes? Sony delayed their big 2015 title and clearly felt sales allowed them a little leeway. Nothing wrong with that. Especially when they have moneyhat deals with various big third party games.

2016 looks a lot better but this is a review of 2015. Also I agree with him on the Horizon name. Sounds very generic.

Facepalm worthy.

It's this ridiculous assumption of MS having redeemed themselves... with their exclusive output on the same level as Sonys. And some people have the nerve praising MS for this minimum effort.

Here are some more omnomnom lists... bon appetit.

Xbox One

1 Xbox Fitness

2 Crimson Dragon

3 Powerstar Golf

4 Kinect Sports

5 Sunset Overdrive

6 Killer Instinct

7 Dance Central Sportlight

8 Forza MotorSport 5

9 Forza Motorsport 6

10 Halo 5

------------------------------

PS4

1 Killzone SF

2 Knack

3 Driveclub

4 Infamous SS

5 LBP 3

6 Bloodborne

7 The Order 1886

8 Until Dawn

9 Everbody's Gone To The Rapture

10 Fat Princess Advenctures

11 Guns Up!

Not sure what that list warz was but I saw Xbox Fitness on there which isn't a 2015 title so I'm going to assume you're confused as to what my post says.

Also, not sure how MS put in "minimum effort". They not only had numerous good games this year but had a massive OS rehaul and gave us backwards compatibility. You might not care about those things, they appeal to me so I do. Apparently they appeal to the guys who wrote the articles as well.

"on the same level as Sony's" is just your opinion. Mine is that Sony's level of first party stuff this year was mostly mediocre. You can throw Bloodborne in there if you want, it's quality, but not first party. But I respect MicroSony bringing us games no matter how it happens.

Lol, it's not like what they said is false. It's kinda of true, Sony does need to deliver in 2016 since 2014/2015 were pretty weak/meh on the first party front.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I don't recall Ratchet nor Uncharted ever having solid release dates for Holiday 2015 (in fact, Uncharted 4 only ever had the "2015" mark shown at the end of a trailer, never a solid date). So, to you, they may have "failed" to deliver, but there was still plenty to play, exclusive or otherwise.

For Uncharted it was a given to be released in the last quarter simply because every other Uncharted did. And nobody expected it to be sooner in the first place . Just like Horizon is not going to launch in either quarter 1/2/3 in 2016. If it even will which is very much a legit question since Sony pushed quite a few releases away, just as the last guardian.

There where plenty if intresting third party releases which was very nice for Sony. But the 1st party support in quarter 4 was as exciting as the 1st party support of MS in early 2015.

You missed the point. They are trying, but their version of trying is "more money in a single game" and not "all this money on lots of games". After seeing everything they've tried, I won't say they aren't trying. Whether they are trying more than Sony is up in the air even if I personally believe so...

The difference is you can't know how much money is put into a game, that information's private. So you specualate based on the quality of the game. In some cases, its easy. Indie vs AAA for example.

But when you're are talking AAA games against each other, if you try the same guessing all you are doing is guessing based of your preferences which are inherently biased.

Furthermore, you assume that both companies spent the same amount of money (equity), so you just divide it arbitrarily again based on your own biases.

I am not allowing bias in, but I can say that they are trying. We don't know the amount spent on a game, but we know they are spending $1 billion in XONE games.

I can't compare their games without personal opinion sneaking into the post, but I can say that both companies are trying just as hard and even if one was trying harder than the other, it's not noticeable. Either one is overdoing it or the other is blowing all their funding in movies and crime serials...

MS is def trying, and I show my support buy buying all of their exclusives minus Forza.  As I said, I like my X1.  Often times I find myself rooting for it just to have it outshined by PS4.

When I look at games, I look at how much I enjoy them.  Both consoles have great looking games, so visual investments are a non factor other than PS4 just being more powerful.  RotTR is great, but it is still coming to PS4 eventually (I got it for X1 as I don't confine myself to any one console, even though I have my preferences).  Halo 5 was well done as well, but Uncharted 4 looks to be just as invested and it is right around the corner.  Also Sony co developed Bloodborne through Sony Japan studios alongside From Software, and that is the highest rated exclusive this gen so far and a new IP.

Now one thing I will give to the X1 is multimedia functionality.  They are making great strides in this field and take the cake here.  PS4 is a good multimedia console, but the X1 is better in this regard.  However when you look at actual focus of features, the PS4 is paving the way in terms of gaming itself.  Look at Shareplay, open network functionality  (why X1 has no FF14), paving the way for remote play, and investing in VR gaming are examples of how the PS4 trumps the X1 in gaming features (even though the X1 is component in this regard in its own way).  At the end of the day I see it as...

X1 multimedia first, gaming second

And...

PS4 gaming first, multimedia second

At the end of the day, MS has not delivered a single game that Sony has not matched in terms of quality AND there are more exclusive games on PS4 to boot.  MS is def trying and doing good, no doubt.  But to say that Sony is trying any less or is uninvested is just false.  That is all I am saying.

I think it's more that MS thinks trying more is spending more money and this is not true. They better find better devs, spend less on movie tie ins and drop microtransactions in favor of more solid games, even if their games' release dates are delayed (their reluctance to do this has bit them back).

2014/2015 were weak for Sony? Fair enough. How has MS beaten them in that regard?

In 2014 they didn't, although their exclusives recieved better reviews. In 2015 they had Rise of the Tomb, Raider, Forza 6 and Halo 5, which where good games. Those games beated Sony's line up which cobsisted out of 4 games The Order, Bloodborne, Tearaway unfolded and Until Dawn. I only count major AAA titles so no rocket league or Ori which are about Equal in the first place.

Which company released more exclusives for it's console and which one didn't?  How do you define when a company is trying versus just sitting in the high chair watching? Isn't the point of video game console to play games?

Hilarious reactions in this thread

Indeed, especially from those who don't contribute anything constructive. ;)

Oh my bad.

Insert generic comment about how bias the article is towards PS.

Much better, much more constructive ;)

I could have sworn you were talking about assnation's comments in the thread earlier.
