And how will they earn with out a 50 + m selling handheld ?

How will they earn with both their user bases crumbling beneath them.

Who saying that will not have 50m+ sold handheld again, or that both users will crumbling beneath them!? Nintendo is preparing new NX platform that probably will be unifed and basicly they again aiming to pull onother Wii.

Also Nintendo is famous to make profit from almost everything, that's why in their entire history they had only 2 years of loss.

YAhh another wii is so likely lol.

Some of you have so much hope, same hopeyou had for wiiu selling 100m and being another wii.

Its very odd to me that some people want Nintendo to go way of Sega, I dont know if those people know that todays Sega is only shadow of once grat Sega that made consoles and great games.

I see a lot this argument... Sega and Nintendo are not comparable in any way. They have A LOT more fans and regarded franchises so I don't see them failing they way Sega did

Of Course Nintendo will never fail like Sega, but my point was that Sega was strongest and had best games while they had their own platform no when they become third party.

Whata re you like 10.  Cant accept reality ? every one these days accepots that fact.

If you cant accpet wii was a fad and you honestly think next nintendo hardware can do such numbers then all is.  I will laugh hard when capcon owns zelda and MS mario.

You obviously have some sort of issues with people who dont play GTA until their thumbs bleed, but there are many different kinds of gamers. Some prefer more lighthearted games and the Wii would be perfect for them.

I love that you chose Capcom of all people to be the company that would aquire Zelda and Mario though...

Did Nintendo franchises popularity skyrocket on Wii? 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Punch-Out, Excite, Sin & Punishment, Battalion Wars, Mario Sports, etc all had very modest boosts over NES/SNES/N64/GC sales despite having 40-80 million extra sales. The only title that saw truly massive growth over previous installments was Mario Kart.

Wii was a fad, its buyers werent gamers.

PS xbox byuers are.

What are you, like 12 years old?

Capcom owning Zelda? Dude stop! you are losing credibility fast.

Nintendo is losing relevance in the videogame market. Most of their games are rehashed products over and over again. In terms of creativity, Nintendo is becoming useless. Many high profile studios and indies are humiliating the once trend setter Nintendo. Their hardware suck as well. Their obsession with simplicity and the need to "hey, look! we're different!" are forcing them to include gimmicks like tablet controller and 3D that didn't prove their funcionality. Instead of powerful systems consumers are offered expensive features that aren't that great. As a company, right now, Nintendo is a unfocused mess. It's failing as a hardware and first party developer and Nintendo would suck as a third party as well.

It's not stupid thinking...just a stupid comment on your part. PS4 has alot more than just SONY games. Ever heard of third party? Wii U has nothing but Nintendo games and now they will stop supporting the Wii U altogether. Just like they stopped supporting the Wii once the novelty wore off and all they had was inferior hardware with goofy controllers.

Yes, PS4 has only few exclusive games while big majority are multiplats games that can be played on X1 or PC, on Wii U almost every game that is good is exclusive.

Their games are awesome but their consoles (hardware & software platform) are not.

I don't think Nintendo should go third party, but I would like to see them be more competitive in the creation of their platforms and to be more aggressive in marketing them. It's frustrating to see them curled up in a little ball while they get ignored by the gaming public.

As someone majoring in embedded systems design. Nintendo hardware is pretty damn amazing. Especially the SNES and Gamecube. But the MIPS-based N64 is really interesting as well.

Agreed. All of their systems have a cleverness to them, but they've generally missed the mark recently in terms of giving developers what they wanted/needed. Going back to N64, that was a nice system that was unfortunately heavily restricted by its storage medium. Same story for Gamecube. And so on.

Nintendo's main profit driver is software sales. Their 3rd party royalties are basically nonexistant at this point, and while Nintendo normally does make a profit on hardware sales, it's hardly as much as they make from software.

If the money they'd get from increased software sales from launching on a tremendously bigger userbase outweighs what they lose from 3rd party royalties and hardware profit, then they should go third party. Neither us nor Nintendo knows if it will though.

Nintemdo are in a peculiar position among the three platform makers because of exactly this. MS and Sony's primary profit drivers are 3rd party royalties and subscription fees, both of which are things that they need to maintain their own platform to keep. Nintendo's main profit driver is in no way tied to their hardware, and could potentially benefit a lot from a higher userbase. This is why Nintendo going third party is in no way as silly as someone make it out to be.

To end it, I'll say this: It's not about wether or not they make money at all as a platform maker, but if they can make more as a 3rd party.

Sega lost their touch, I don't think the lower quality of their games in the 2000's was specifically because they stopped making consoles. Other companies have experienced the same

Its not about my hopes, it's about Nintendo plans. Personally don't expect Wii numbers but definitely expecting much better numbers than Wii U having.
