Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do people think that Nintendo could go or should go third-party?

Its very odd to me that some people want Nintendo to go way of Sega, I dont know if those people know that todays Sega is only shadow of once grat Sega that made consoles and great games.

Do you realize that Nintendo is making money even with Wii U and they earned more money than Sony in generation where PS2 sold 155 m and GC only 22m!?

And how will they earn with out a 50 + m selling handheld ?

How will they earn with both their user bases crumbling beneath them.

Did Nintendo franchises popularity skyrocket on Wii? 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Punch-Out, Excite, Sin & Punishment, Battalion Wars, Mario Sports, etc all had very modest boosts over NES/SNES/N64/GC sales despite having 40-80 million extra sales. The only title that saw truly massive growth over previous installments was Mario Kart.

Wii was a fad, its buyers werent gamers.

PS xbox byuers are.

What are you, like 12 years old?

First and foremost, selling over 65 million units of hardware in an underperforming gen is nothing to be sniffed at.
Secondly, they are now starting a mobile venture in which their IP will reach an audience that dwarfs that of console users.
Thirdly, Im sure that if it benefited Nintendo to give up hardware and go software only they would have done so by now. Having millions of games selling on their own hardware with 100% of the profits landing in the bank, is obviously the best thing for them. As seen this gen, even small install bases like Wii U still has insane software attach rates and I dont see it changing any time soon.

Sure if corporations were not ran by stubborn pridefull often stupid arrogant people, but they are.  See how Kodak fared.

100 year old and went bankrupt in a blink of an eye almost.

Then ther is IBM that abandonded what made them them dropped PCs long before anyone else and looked to the future, and is mega succesfull still around doing billions upon billions of business.

Nintendo arent as dumb as many here like to believe, hence the reason they are branching out into mobile. They can use their popular IP to reach millions upon millions of mobile device users (Pokemon go is going to be huge), whilst also having an audience for dedicated gaming devices, in which their is always going to be that hardcore crowd. Add this to giving more freedom of their IP to other venture such as the Mario movie, theme parks, tv shows, merchandise, toys to life (Amiibo is a huge success which has room to grow)etc actually suggests to me that Nintendo are in really good shape going forward.

Of course Nintendo should do third party! It's one of the reasons they've been tanking so hard. The same 60+ year old Japanese men can't run it forever. They need to make some serious changes

Whata re you like 10.  Cant accept reality ? every one these days accepots that fact.

If you cant accpet wii was a fad and you honestly think next nintendo hardware can do such numbers then all is.  I will laugh hard when capcon owns zelda and MS mario.

I see a lot this argument... Sega and Nintendo are not comparable in any way. They have A LOT more fans and regarded franchises so I don't see them failing they way Sega did

Who saying that will not have 50m+ sold handheld again, or that both users will crumbling beneath them!? Nintendo is preparing new NX platform that probably will be unifed and basicly they again aiming to pull onother Wii.

Also Nintendo is famous to make profit from almost everything, that's why in their entire history they had only 2 years of loss.

Its not just Sega (jointventure with Sammy) look also at SNK (bought by chinese), Atari (bought by french), NEC/Hudson (bought by Konami).

Everyone who gave up hardware will fall lower and lower history has proven. Do you think Sony and MS would keep making and publishing games if they would stop making hardware? They would sell off their studios and completley leave gaming the way NEC did.

Ounce Nintendo would go third party you wouldnt see franchises and games being published and funded by them like Bayonetta, Fire Emblem or Xenoblade. They would be pretty worse than they are now with new IPs. More Amiibos, Remasters etc.

Remember when people said, "the strongest hardware will never win a generation," simply because it hadn't happened before?  I remember that very well, because I thought it was a bad conclusion with very little in the way of logic to back it up and I often argued that it was nonsense.

In this case, Nintendo is a much different animal than most of the examples you mentioned.  The position and situation they are in now is barely comparable.  Especially Sony and Microsoft.

As far as games go, we probably would not see projects like Bayonetta or W101.  However, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are owned by Nintendo and it's quite possible they would continue.

I would love to play a few Nintendo games, namely Mario and Splatoon. But I am not going to buy a WiiU just for 2 or 3 games. I would definitely buy Nintendo titles to play on PS4. Just think of how many copies of Splatoon would sell if it was available on Sony and Microsoft consoles.

Really!? I would love to play few Sony games, namely Uncharted and Last of Us, but I am not going to buy PS4 just for those 2-3 games. Pretty stupid thinking, dont you think!?

You want to play Nintendo games, buy Nintendo hardware, simple as that.

It's not stupid thinking...just a stupid comment on your part. PS4 has alot more than just SONY games. Ever heard of third party? Wii U has nothing but Nintendo games and now they will stop supporting the Wii U altogether. Just like they stopped supporting the Wii once the novelty wore off and all they had was inferior hardware with goofy controllers.
