Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do people think that Nintendo could go or should go third-party?

It will never ever happen people have to forget it

I would love to play a few Nintendo games, namely Mario and Splatoon. But I am not going to buy a WiiU just for 2 or 3 games. I would definitely buy Nintendo titles to play on PS4. Just think of how many copies of Splatoon would sell if it was available on Sony and Microsoft consoles.

I'm not saying I want Nintendo to go third party but I will never understand the mindset of, "it didn't work for SEGA so it cannot work for Nintendo." There is really no reason to assume that consistency would fall off a cliff at Nintendo the way it did at SEGA.

Now, in order to really analyze this, we'd have to list the positives and negatives of both positions. That's a daunting task, to be honest. Most people, when they discuss the possibility of Nintendo going third-party, they simply decide based on what THEY want and rationalize the logistics to support that. That's useless.

I think they'd be successful as a third party developer but I'm not quite sure that the increase in available user base would make up for the loss of a consistent revenue stream. Becoming software dependent would mean fluctuating revenue, which can be difficult without the evergreen franchises of the sort EA and Activision have. More pressure to have a consistent release schedule might result in even more series fatigue for some of their biggest IP.

It's a complex situation that would need an in depth study to document all the advantages and disadvantages.

I didn't necessarily say it like that, unless you were referring to what others have said. I said the reason why Sega left the competition was because they were bleeding money and they could no longer support the Dreamcast or any future console long-term. Nintendo could possibly fare better than Sega as a third-party. But as you mentioned, fluctuating revenue would be a problem, especially if consumers are already fed up with too many Marios, Zeldas, and Pokemon at this point.

It's an interesting debate.

Btw, I apologize, again, for everyone who had to endure a long post. Just a lot of thoughts in my head regarding this topic.

Who sold least consoles should be first thats just logical.

PS4 is setting records i guess so is wiiu just negative ones.

Ya, let's ignore the Nintendo device that has sold over 55 million.....

I never said they shouldnt give a new handheld a try.

But them being relevent in consoels is over, wiiu killed them there.

Because when you're a company it doesn't matter how much money you have; it matters how much you make. If console after console fails to make money, you're wasting your time making them. When your software sales are limited to a tiny install base, you're not reaching your potential.

If the NX doesn't work and we pretty much have proof that this modern gaming landscape just plain can't support Nintendo hardware, yet their software sells okay regardless of that, it would be madness to keep trying to make us buy systems. It would make literally zero sense. A company has to do what works.

I'm so glad Nintendo didn't take your advice in the gamecube years.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I dont say Nintendo should be third party because they are behind in sales, but because itll be better for me as a gamer... Just imagine the quality of their games in a more powerful console than the wiiU
Imagine XCX in PS4 or Xbone (Id buy it for PS4 tho) or smash, or mario kart... same fun, with a boost in graphics...
So then again, its not because they are going bankrupt or so, but because for me, as a gamer it would be better...

And one console less to buy hehehe

Yahh lets lay our hope in more fad driven sales, 1 out of 5 gens.  Awesome odds going into the nx.

I wonder what some of you prefer, ninty going bankrupt or going 3rd party.

That "fad" made more money than PS1-2-3 combined.
