Forums - Gaming Discussion - With this year about to end, time to pick the GPTY!

The World Ends with You is my GPTY. It's really good, I loved the plot, the combat, the characters, the setting and the soundtrack. I recommend it to anyone with a DS/3DS who likes japanese RPG's (unless you really hate J-pop...)

1. Mass Effect 2.

I'm currently mining my way through the main 360 games before I move onto the PS3 as I tend to be PC and Retro gaming focused, these are among the later games to play on the list but I'd avoided them due to the time required for them. Finally sat down and played the whole Mass Effect trilogy this year. 1 I found had poor combat and tons of filler missions but the best story and characters of the trilogy, 3 I found was actually very good in places, especially combat but was almost devoid of any sidequests, character building or exploration and too linear. Then there's Mass Effect 2. A really nice halfway house, gameplay isn't as good as it's successor but has tons to go and do, and even if the core storyline is the weakest in the trilogy, the side quests and characters keep you invested and having fun. I genuinely enjoyed 95% of it, minus the rare filler missions you'd get on scanned planets or from lazy dlc packs pumped out early on (some of the proper DLC like the Shadow Broker is exceptional however). Easily the best RPG I've played in the last 5 years.

2. Road Redemption.

Still in early access. Stupidly good fun spiritual successor to Road Rash. The only problem with it is the developer absolutely refuses to remove a mode called car storm where it rains down cars and trucks onto the road and this is randomly appearing on some levels. If the developer will listen to the vast majority of the community complaining every day about it on the games forum this could easily be the top of my 2016 list as well due to more additions to it. To be fair the developer listens to our complaints about everything else and addresses them one by one. Looking forward to see what's added to it in the year to come when it should get a final release.

3. Vanquish.

A third person shooter with a lot of 80s anime and arcade roots. This game would take joint first if it's autosave system wasn't absolutely dire. Very, very fun game, hard as nails but it's got an extremely bad habit of punching you in the nuts when you are having the most fun killing massive, epic bosses. The problem comes from it's save system either dropping you way before a boss if you die, so you repeat killing swarms of enemies for ages before it even shows up again...or when doing a multi phase 15 minute boss, you dying two seconds before it does and it sending you back to the start of it showing up. Why the hell didn't they put autosaving between phases like all the other games in this genre did at the time of it's release? Still, hard not to recommend. Just bring a cup to prevent your crown jewels.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

The best game I played this year has to be The Last of Us, In my opinion this game really is a masterpiece, a game for the ages. :D. The gameplay is amazing and the story is outstanding and captivating!. Is not like other games of that category that have great gameplay but bad story, this game has both. Someone should make a movie about this game, I would see it xd. :D

Contra Hard Corps.

Gosh...it's tough. I played a lot of fun games, and a lot of them shined for different reasons. I'm not sure if I can directly compare them all, but if I had to rank them by playtime, quality, and overall enjoyment, I'd have to go with the list below.

1.) SMT: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker
2.) Xenoblade Chronicles X
3.) Super Smash Bros U
4.) Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
5.) Guacamelee
