Holy cats, people aren't even skimming the OP, they're just running with their preconceptions and jumping down to the comment box.

On topic, it's hard to achieve greatness and even harder to replicate greatness. The problem with story-driven content that thrives on being epic is that you lose a lot of steam when it turns into a "further adventures of" series. The main character becomes a Mary Sue and the thrills become progressively less thrilling, even as the writers try harder to hit those epic notes once more. Everything becomes muddled and often contradictory.

Reboot time? Or is it a better idea to create a new IP?

All that write up, yet there isn't a single ''bad'' or even less than stellar Halo game...

The hate for Halo 5 is welcome though as the pure unnecessary hate for Halo 4 has dies down. I never understood people who pick apart Halo 4. It was fantastic, and sold really well.

Most of the disappointment is geared towards Halo 5, and that is solely the fault of the people who criticized Halo 4. Load outs are gone. 5v5 slayer is gone. No more ordinance drops. I personally find it hard to get into with Warzone the only notable thing about Halo 5.

I hope Halo 6 follows Halo 1 - 4 rather than 5.

I hope it's like 5 but with all the features they cut out...

Wow, I came here expecting this go be about Halo 5 sales, not how the best Halo game "ruined" the series. And the only complaints are about the campaign? Brutes ruined Halo, really?

Halo has a great story but let's be honest, multiplayer is its bread and butter and the reason for its popularity. And Halo 2 has the best multiplayer of all. The best maps, good balance, introduced new weapons and has the best BR in the series. And it didn't have any fucking bubble shields or shield regenerators, if anything ruined the series it was those.

The "Halo is dead" looks a lot like the "Final Fantasy is dead" bandwagon...

There apparently are books that fill in gaps in the story of Halo but I've never read any.
With that being said. I absolutely love Halo 5. So far from the story it's pretty good. I recently went back and played the 1st and didn't remember how much backtracking I did when I was younger. Made the game seem longer. H5 story is part of a trilogy so hopefully most gaps get filled. Anyway I loved 2 but thought the multi was overrated. Everyone just wanted to look for exploits. Lots of cheating as well.

343 did a great job with the multi. First I didn't like Warzone but now I can play it and have a ton of fun. Glad the got rid of that ordinance bullshit. Only gripe is the maps. I think a couple of H4 maps can work perfectly in this game. H3 had great maps so right now I'd still say H3 over 5. Better maps and hands down H5 tops it.

In CE they literally crashed into the ring, yet Master Chief climbed out unharmed, so why is a little space walking so controversial? You need to understand that these are super soldiers that are enhanced by their exoskeleton. I simply think you played the first game from the wrong perspective, treating Master Chief more like a regular character in a game, then the super soldier he is. 343i has used this in a much, much better way than Bungie ever could, but the Bungie games in the series are still amazing. Halo 4+5 are in a higher league though IMO.

I agree with you regarding the SP story. It got way out of hand starting with Halo 2, to the point where 2 is the last Halo game I have fully played through the SP.

Luckily the MP has always been amazing. And for what its worth, the SP I have played of Halo 5 is pretty spectacular, and far from generic.

Not to spoil anything but the way they ended Halo 5, it would be a shame if they didnt continue because i really want to see what will happen next.

I hate halo 3, but 4 was better and 5 is also better but not as good as Halo 1 and 2.

Am I taking crazy pills? I re-read the OP twice, and the TL:DR version is this :

"Halo 1 was amazeballs, and Halo 2 turned into generic slog, btw I hate Bungie"

And then I see people talking about Halo 5 immediately? First, November 2004 wants it's thread back, and second, what does this have to do with the situation today, or is this just kind of a retrospective look back? I don't personally have a problem with it, it just kind of struck me as strange.

Maybe OP had planned to detail why Halo 3, 4, 5, ODST, and Reach were also bad/worse than CE and just didn't feel like writing it out?

I Like halo Franchise but Halo 5 is very meh

For some reason I saw this as a shot against Halo 5...glad I was wrong because Halo 5 is great and therefore this thread is irrelevant.

I'm going to have to go with the folks saying Halo 5 is a great game.

I recognize that the Microsoft hate bandwagon is still running pretty strong, but Halo 5 is anything but a "fall from grace". It's not perfect, as I've outlined myself, but there's a polish to this game that not only gives it a distinct flavor from other FPS games while modernizing the formula, but also reminds people that Halo is Halo.

You can be good at just about every modern FPS, and Halo will eat you alive! Hahaha

I have the opposite problem. I rock Halo, but suck at anything and everything else...

That sort of inversely proves the point, though, hehe  Halo is Halo, there's really no other FPS game that plays enough like it that you can transfer skills from one to another.  It's mostly the insane TTK, though! lol

The OP stated that Halo stopped being "Halo" when Halo 2 hit, but people are pointing out that even now, Halo 5 is still a great "Halo" game.

At least that's how I'm interpreting the conversational direction in this thread, and why I support the thoughts that Halo 5 is, indeed, a great Halo game.

I think that you wanted the other halos to live up to your experience with halo 1 that was completely fresh to you and immersed you so deeply into it. Because you can't really relive an experience in the way you did the first time that you're blaming ms for the other halos.

Personally, I wasn't wowed by it or any halo. My old friends and I used to throw lans and play halo 1 then later on halo 2. The game was perfect and fun to do that with. It's story line was never it's strong suit. The MC didn't have a personality and the only motivation for the character was to save human beings from the aliens. Kill aliens and save everyone. That's very generic in sci-fi.
