Forums - Nintendo Discussion - You are now appointed to be Nintendo's President, what would you do?

How much power do I get? Unilateral power?

1. Ensure NX has the same horsepower as the PS4/XO with a proper AMD chipset/GPU with a standard BR-DVD and appropriate HDD size. Use a typical, non-gimmicky controller.

2. Immediately greenlight a more robust online gaming service to match Sony and Microsoft.

3. Develop a NintendoPass subscription service for the new system. This service would supplant the VC library, and shift older titles to a Netflix-style system that allows for unlimited play for $12.99/mo. Work to release 1-2 games per month on the system while immediately leveraging Nintendo's classic 64-bit-or-less gaming library.

4. Offer the new NX system for $99.99 + 2/yr subscription to NintendoPass.

5. To attract 3rd parties, I would develop a tiered bounty system for digital releases on the system - release with us day and date with the other consoles, and you'll keep 100% of your digital revenue (less bandwidth costs) for the first week of release. After that, use the standard 70/30 split. This goes for major blockbusters and indie titles.

6. Leverage the NintendoPass subscription system with the 3DS. Offer a free 3DS to anyone that wants it if they're willing to subscribe to the system @ $12.99/mo.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'd change NOA's brand approach from over-emphasizing a kid friendly/childish image and try to paint Nintendo as a brand for everyone; kids, teens, adults and families by emphasizing gameplay and fun rather than trying to appeal specifically to younger age demographics by talking down to the audience.

I'd take the NST branch from out of the doghouse and try to rehabilitate it into an actual studio making actual games again instead of its current image as the 'Mario vs. Donkey Kong' studio.

I'd sign Platinum into an exclusive 2nd party contract and have them work on new IPs, 2nd tier Nintendo franchises and other franchises that have been long dormant.

I'd continue rehabilitating Nintendo's relationships with Japanese 3rd parties and salvage what I can with western 3rd parties without having them walk all over Nintendo

Lastly, I'd try to buy Capcom and rebrand it as the company's development branch that emphasized titles for teens and adults (kind of like what DC Comics does with its Vertigo imprint). If that can't happen, I'd start a new large development branch within Nintendo that served that same purpose.

I've left many, many posts on this site with words to that effect.

Make some phone calls with 3rd party. Make a whooole lot of them.... Or emails maybe? Just, get in talks with them. Try to make amends and get those 3rd party games on Ninten consoles.

I'd make a true sequel to Super Mario RPG, even if it bankrupts the company. Mark my words.

That'd take quite a lot of money to do... A Mario RPG with that kind of money would make a hell out of an RPG. Maybe they should just do an open world pokemon game then, haha..

I am wondering if an open world Pokemon game would actually work. Or something like an MMO? Pokemon has usually been known for being self-contained within certain regions and Game Freak (81 employees) is not known to develop on home consoles. I guess they can work with Nintendo EAD or something to make it work? But how would you insert over 700 Pokemon (and possibly counting) and make the world interesting to play in for hours and hours? Plus, what would it mean for the future of the franchise's mainline Pokemon games?

I'd make a console that can print money.

I think it could work, maybe? Maybe try something like Xenoblade Chronicles X, but the different regions could be the pokemon regions, like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, etc. And you can have certain pokemon spread out in those regions. And for MP, I suppose you can set it as a seperate mode where players can meet up to battle, trade, or special missions or something? Those are quick basic ideas I can think of right away. I think there is an idea in there for a huge pokemon game.

I suppose this could be a console pokemon, and the smaller bite ones can just be handheld ones. Just a few thoughts.

1. Buy Capcom, Atlus, Square Enix, and Kojima Productions. Set them on making exclusive games that hearken back to the NES-SNES glory days.

2. Release the NX in November 2017. Make it just as powerful as the PS4, but at a $249.99 price point. Make Splatoon 2, or Super Mario Galaxy 3 a pack-in launch title.

3. Bring back the Nintendo Seal of Quality. This means, no more shovelware for Nintendo systems. A lot of Wii users got burnt out on all the shovelware, and dropped Nintendo altogether. Changing the Nintendo Seal, back to the Seal of Quality, is a must.

4. Get Steam to work on the NX. This way, big AAA, third party titles wind up playable on the NX, whether the developers intended it or not. If it will play on steam, it will play on NX. In return for this, publish the entire VC library to steam. It's a win-win-win for Nintendo, Steam, and PC gamers.

5. Make sure that at least four AAA exclusives get released for the NX every year. Try to space the releases out so that there's always a new game to play.

6. Support the NX for five years, and then release another system. A shorter console cycle will keep Nintendo systems at a competitive power level, and price point.

PS4 level horsepower for 2017 will be ancient. Sony will just show the PS5 which will be like 10x more powerful and then NX will be in the same position the Wii U is in.

My personal feeling is Nintendo needs to radically alter what the traditional game platform is. NX has to compete against the Playstation *FIVE* and XB2 ... that means IMO it needs to be an evolving/upgrading platform like Steam/iOS are. NX is just a platform, the hardware evolves and changes but from that point on you can take your NX games up with you.

One final point. The Wii was ancient compared to the 360, and PS3, but it kicked both of their butts. Why? It was a steal at $250 and it had an awesome library early on.

The PS5 isn't due out until 2020 or later. The PS3 lasted from 2006-2013. That's seven years. The PS4 didn't really get any good games until early 2015. By the time the PS5 is kicking out good games, the NX2 will be a year away.

Also, let's keep in mind that we are starting to reach a cap on rate of returns, when it comes to graphics. A system ten times more powerful than the PS4, would only deliver marginally better graphics. This is because you need to pay artists to make models, and textures. The more detailed the art the more time it takes. The PS5 could be capable of rendering real life, and it wouldn't matter, because the art budget of 99% of all games won't allow the artists to put that much work in.

Don't forget that the SNES was ancient compared to the 3DO. The GB was ancient compared to the Lynx. The NES was ancient compared to the Gensesis from 88 to 91.
