I can't remember if I've ever even met someone who has Pikachu as their favorite Pokemon, and no one really seems to pay it much mind despite Nintendo shoving it down our throats constantly. Okay obviously you're not gonna see it during online battles in the mainseries games since despite what the anime wants you to believe, Pikachu kinda sucks, with Raichu hardly any better. It's relevance doesn't get much better in other games though.

I frequent the Super Mystery Dungeon community on Miiverse rescuing other players n what not, and from I've seen, Pikachu is one of the least popular picks for main character or partner. There's no excuse here, as practically all Pokemon are viable in this game, and you only have 19 other starters to choose from. Also in the Art Academy community, there was a contest having you draw your favorite pokemon, and of the 100 or so entrys I looked at, I can't recall seeing a drawing of Pikachu.

Yah yah, all anecdotal, but I haven't seen anything saying otherwise. What do you guys think, anyone here actually love Pikachu? Would anyone really care if Pikachu was no longer Pokemon's mascot?

Pikachu is the mascot that EVERYBODY knows. Not just fans of the series but literally everybody knows Pikachu. But i can tell the Pokemon company is starting to share that spotlight with other pokemon, mainly charizard in merchandise and such. Personally I don't care who is the mascot as long as it isn't a stupid choice like dunsparce or whatever.

Sorry Nintendo, Pikachu need a vacation till NX release.

I don't think he's many people's favorite, but even people who never played the games or watched the cartoons are often able to immediately associate Pikachu with Pokemon.

At this point I suspect Pikachu ranks behind perhaps only Mario and Link in recognizability in the mainstream world among Nintendo's characters. Can't say that about any other Pokemon.

*edit* Donkey Kong may actually belong on that list, not sure... Everyone has heard of donkey kong dating back to the golden age of the arcade.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Pikachu is the mascotte, you can't do anything about that. Constantly  getting Pikachu merchandise, ads and so on is a double edge sword: on one side he's really recognizable, on the other hand true fans start to get tired of him...

Personally I don't mind him, he's got a pretty nice concept, he's cute enough, but he can also be pretty cool:

Probably if I had to do a top 100 Pokémon, or even a top 200 he wouldn't make it simply because there are TOO MANY good pokémon to leave their place to something so simple...

That beeing said Pikachu is my main in smash, not because of him beeing pikachu, but because of how he plays, and of course because he rappresents a franchise I'm really atached to...

Come on, he's adorable.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww

Nothing wrong with Pikachu, he's adorable enough, and an iconic design to him.

I can't hate the guy.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I'm not a Pokémon fan, but I like Pikachu. OTOH I'd kill Ash Ketchum in some extravagant way, I really can't stand him.
