It really isn't, except for those 3 segments at the end of each dungeon.

The rest of the game is Metroidvania. I wouldn't call that a platformer.

I don't know what those three segments are, just thought it was a platformer

I'll be buying it on Steam this year, but I'll be honest, I'm a bit dissapointed to hear that. I wanted a 2D platformer :-/

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze by a country mile.

It may lack ambition and graphical oomph, but its tight controls, clever and dynamic level design, challenging but fair difficulty, and sublime soundtrack make it an absolute pleasure.

It's not the best showcase of Retro's abilities, but it demonstrates that even their cruise control is better than most developer's A-game.

Out of the four games I've played extensively on that list, Ori is in a league of its own. Shovel knight and Super Mario maker are great as well, while I haven't really gotten into Rayman. The rest of the games haven't been in my library sadly.
