Great, I was always thinking that someday they would release 2ds in Japan, it was so strange that Japan hadn't get it so far! what?All Japanese people are affluent and can afford to buy 3DS or willing to spend so much for 3ds? They release it in the best way, sure it's limited but it might be the harbinger for a general release!
I'm looking forward to see the beneficial effect!
Of course, I guess many already 3ds owners will buy it too. It's dirty cheap and the bundle is very attractive, but price doesn't matter so much , when  the pricey new 3ds/xl are also being bought by lots of people who were/are already 3ds/xl owners.

Pokémon Blue was actually the third version of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan :P

Well I haven't found any answers so I'm just gonna assume no, which is pretty stupid. Now the only point in getting them is if you really need your nostalgia fix, and I mean really need it.

Like what, better 3D on a system that isn't supposed to have 3D lol? The rest of the New 3DS stuff is useless for 99% of games anyway, and all of it would just drive up the cost on the supposed to be cheap model.

 

2DS with a built-in NFC chip for Amiibo compatibility would make sense.
