Forums - General Discussion - People are offended too easily

Do you think people are starting to get offended easily?

Yes. It's ridiculous 143 81.71%

No. Not at all 11 6.29%

Eh...sort of 16 9.14%

I think people are starting to get offended easily. It's extremely difficult for me to say anything without hearing the words "offensive", "sexist", or "racist".

Don't get me wrong though. I try my best to not be an asswipe. I usually do my best to not be hurtful towards others. However, it's to the point where I find it quite ridiculous. Whenever I make gender stereotypes, people will laugh at the ones about men, but will go crazy when I make one about woman!

I honestly find most of the sensitivity from groups such as BLM, feminism, LGBTQ+. What makes it worse is how it's fine for them to make fun of a group(white people, men, straight people, etc) but will start going bonkers if you say the same thing towards a certain group of people( minorities, women, not-straight people, etc).

I don't wish to cause a fight though. Perhaps I may be the only one with the problem, perhaps not. That's why I thought I'd go to VGchartz.

Perhaps you should change your nickname.

A gentleman like Hershel Layton always finds the right words to say without offending anyone. ;)

Personally, I think this is a free world so more power to me for offending anyone I guess ...

Gotta deal with activists that vouch for equality despite double standards ...

My observations have yielded similar results: Groups who have been subjected to discrimination historically do seem to get more upset when you make fun of them for their specific traits.

Why they choose to react this way rather than reacting like, say, white heterosexuals when you make fun of their traits, remains a mystery.

Just so you know, I'm gay and love being stereotyped because then I can respond with a better comment. ;)

People do get offended easily these days especially in those communities you mentioned, just remember, not everyone in every community is like that. :)

this is the emo age after all and the era of laptop/smartphone activists.

So what did you expect?

I think it's certainly hard to disagree with that statement. Just find people who have thick skin and hang out with them. I just avoid people that are easily offended. As for the people on the Internet, well...there will just never really be a way to avoid them.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

I can usually get away with all those sorts of jokes (racist, religious, sexist, etc etc.) in front of people in person because people know I don't mean what I say. I think the key is to know your audience, understand their limits, and then make the delivery of whatever it is you say (that may be controversial) is done well. If not you'll end up looking like an asshole, which admittedly has happened to me -but that's the risk you take when taking on sensitive topics

people have been getting offended since the dawn of time.

I think is an internet thing.
