This game was amazing - a truly delight - beautifully made and smooth gameplay - it deserves it. 2 mil lt I hope!

TF is truly an amazing game, but is extremely difficult (especially if you like to collect special things). It makes other 2-d side scrollers look like a joke in terms of difficulty (I did beat it and did a lot of collectible things).

Wooly World has an irrisistable art style (freaking yarn...) and is EXTREMELY kid friendly (I've heard it's very easy, haven't played it yet).

Also, TF released with less install base which should always be considered.

Donkey Kong Country outsold Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong 64 outsold Yoshi's Story, Donkey Kong Country Returns outsold Kirby Epic Yarn (easy, similar aesthetic).

Install base at launch doesn't matter, they both have the same amount of current install base to sell to.

I've played the older Donkey Kong games and, in my opinion, TF is the hardest by a good amount. You have to perfectly time things out at so many points or start over.

Actually, I'm pretty sure adult Nintendo fans outnumber kids on Wii U.

If Wii U was effectively tapping into the "parents buying for their kids" market, its sales wouldn't be so dismal.

I disagree. I think there is a substantial number of adult Nintendo fans (10-15%), but I do think the console is ruled by a majority of younger audience. Otherwise classic follow ups (pikmin 3, Rayman legends, donkey kong tropical freeze, Xeno x) would see a lot more sales. Older Nintendo fans know that these are great games and deserve more sales, but a majority of kids don't know these franchises well (leading to slower sales)

If that were the case, games like Skylanders would sell far better on Wii U than they do.

Skylanders supercharged is selling better on the wii u than any other console (despite being third party and wii u's install base). In fact, that's the only third party IP Nintendo feels is worthwhile working with

This news disgusts me. Trop Freeze is clearly the better game and the reviews back this up.
The strength of the Mario ip is too strong. N needs to stop relying on it.

Have you played Yoshi's Wolly World? I agree DKFT is better and deserves better sales but I think your being kinda harsh on Yoshi if it disgusts you to see it selling well. I think it's very fun and a well crafted platformer and it would be a shame to see both games underperform. Besides, DKTF will probably end up selling 1.5-1.8M which isn't bad for WiiU.

Didn't see anyone mention it, but there's also the fact that the last console Yoshi we got was 2 decades ago.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Yoshi's Woolly World is an amazing game. True, it's not better than DK, but it deserved more sales too. Although they're very different games, so it's not a fair comparison maybe (2D platformers, but very different feeling).

That's not what matters, it only sold 300k copies WW, it's not a very good number. Better than in other consoles? Yes. But a very small number in a 11M user-base console. I don't think the 10-15% is remotely close to the real number. I'd say it's close 40/50 in this console. It doesn't have that casual appeal that the Wii had, and Nintendo fan base is older than many people think. A lot of us growing up with Nintendo titles, and I'm sure a large porcentage of the console is Nintendo fans who were playing Nintendo games since the 90s/00s

300k in less than a few months is pretty solid, it's gonna be a lot more lifetime. Want another example, look at Splatoon vs donkey kong country tropical freeze. Splatoon is heavily centered towards kids while dk is towards classic Nintendo gamers. Dk barely edged 1 million in almost 2 years while splatoon passes 3 million in a few months. Claim still holds even if dk is replaced with Pikmin 3, another Ninty Classic. Wii u audience is dominated by kids, not veterans (although they aren't non existent).

Skylanders on Wii U still surpassed in sales by even moderately performing fan-oriented fare like Pikmin 3 or Monster Hunter Tri.
