Forums - Movies & TV - !! SPOILERS !! Star Wars 7 - Just a Remake?

So I just watched Star Wars 7 and my thoughts.., was this really star wars 7 or was it a stark wars remake?

My points:

BB 8 = R2D2

Father Son plot (Han Solo => Son; Darth Vater => Luke Skywarker)

Old Mentor/Father dies in the end (Han Solo; Obi Wan)

Death Star (1 weakness, gets destroyed. Like really, why do the evil guys always build death stars and dont fix their weak points?)

One even more evil guy (imperator, big guy ... i dont know his name in 7)

Old Yedi Master (Yoda/Luke Skywarker) left the "civilisation" and is in exil

Evil Guy was masked (Darth Vader, Han Solos son)

Protagonist is an really good yedi with strong power

To many similarities?

It's the one thing that really irks me about the Force Awakens, it uses the Original Trilogy as a crutch and is playing it TOO safe.

Poe on mission to retrieve a map of Skywalker's location/Leia on a mission with death star plans.
Poe gives a droid the map/Leia gives a droid the plans.
Poe gets captured and interrogated by Kylo/Leia gets captured and interrogated by Vader.
Poe escapes with help from an ex Stormtrooper/Leia gets rescued by rebels disguised as stormtroopers.
During the escape Poe and Finn shoot down ties/During the escape Luke and Han shoot down ties.
BB8 is rescued by Rey and she joins his mission/R2-D2 is rescued by Luke and he joins his mission.
Finn looking out over the junkyard town/Obi Wan and Luke looking out over Mos Eisley...

The list goes on and on... I'm hoping Disney has got it out of their system now and Episode 8 will actually be original.

NNID: TanukiTrooper - PSN: MatrosRx - STEAM: TanukiTrooper

Get rid of the second part of the thread title.

The PS5 Exists.

a trench run in both to destroy the planet destroying weapon

mentor gets killed confronting a masked enemy who he has an emotional connection to as the young heroes watch

I am Iron Man

That's JJ's thing, I guess. Making a sequel/remake at the same time.

Don't know why but I kept expecting to see a Force Ghost of old man Hayden Christensen.

well this thread is pretty dead. Obviously because many ppl didnt watched the movie yet and dont want to get spoilerd^^

It's similar plot wise to A New Hope. So I agree with the points you share. But the characters are radically different ,except maybe BB-8 and R2-D2 which share a lot of similarities, although I find BB-8 cuter, it's fucking adorable. The new trio of characters (Rey, Finn and Poe) are nothing similar to the OT ones (Luke, Leia, Han). The villain is completely different too. While Vader was more calm, Kylo Ren lose his shit everytime. So I think it's more like a tribute to A New Hope, introducing a similar plot and setting to a new audience, while creating new and interesting characters.

I'm not sure why people are so surprised the movie is similar to 4. The Phantom Menace also shared a lot of similarities to 4 as well -albeit less than 7, but it still had a lot of callbacks. It's like a tradition at this point to have the first in a new Star Wars trilogy to be like the original, like Lucas famously said, "It's like poetry, it rhymes" XD

There are some similarities to ANH ... but no.

It has about 100x more action than ANH. The main "action" sequence in ANH prior to the ending space battle is Obi-Wan chopping some guy's arm off in the bar.

It has like 3x more planets than ANH. It has a snow planet and an Endor like forest planet ... so which is it guys? Is it aping ANH or the OT? Jedi had a Death Star too by the way.

TFA has a very bittersweet, even sad ending ... does A New Hope?

Most Star Wars movies have similar plot elements, it's part of the general structure of the movies ...

The Empire builds another Death Star ... Obi-Wan dies but there's another Obi-Wan type figure (convinenantly) around the corner in Yoda. Luke is a desert farm boy ... so is Anakin, Qui-Gon dies in Ep.I just like Obi-Wan does in IV and now Han Solo, Etc. etc. etc.
