Fanboys are struggling to explain how Ren gets rekt by an inexperienced force user who suddenly wakes up and becomes more powerful than a full-blown Jedi.

But can they defend how a lowly captain can, at a random computer, at random and unguarded section of the planet suddenly turn off the ENTIRE DEFENSIVE SHIELD OF THE PLANET?

Shouldn't a decision of that importance go through several chains of command to be finally executed at the main control center where they fire the solar weapon?

You can't possibly explain away this. It kills the movie. The planet blowing up is also too soon. It's been one movie and they already destroyed the most awesome weapon in the entire series. So, they won then? No need to get Luke right?

Very disappointed in the movie.

I work at a nuclear power plant and before I give an enemy information that could damage the environment, I'd die--probably warning everyone if the danger. This was a conditioned soldier!

We don't know how these things happened exactly. But Luke couldn't look straight at Leia and Han anymore and felt he let them both down for how Ben Solo turned. He took it hard on himself and for some reason, thought that going to that old Jedi temple was the best thing for him...

A lot of these things, I assume, will be adressed in the sequels.

Blowing up the Starkiller which was a PLANET, Killing everything on it. All of the plants, animals, people, culture, or whatever.

And it blew up several planets, killing all of the people on those planets as well.

And they had to absorb the energy of a SUN to charge it. After that blast, they recharged it by draining another sun!!

Do we have the biggest death toll in movie history?

My friend, I don't know if I can desribe it so well, but I will try. 

The first thing that the STAR WARS was the STAR WARS itself, for me, it was just the feeling delivered in movies. Feeling that the force is somewhat mythical, achievable by those who have the will to be strong with the force. The proportions were always noticable and well dscribed. I guess that the scale in which most of the Universe was delivered, was at the good pace and in good scale. In the Force Awakens everything was shaken, the proportions were so defferent, the scale of relationship of defferent aspects was something made by other visionere. I think that the meaning of the force, and how it was described in the previous Episodes, was belittled. I think that the word 'magic', that was used here before by someone, was he best word to desrcibe it. It's just the feeling, and you cannot lie to yourself about how you feel. I don't even think about it being a rip off of the original Star Wars movie. I just could forget about that, it obviously was, but I don't mind that at this moment. I would not mind even if the Jar Jar was in the movie again, only if the STAR WARS formula wasn't shaken. What was belittled? What was lacking? Well, a different storytelling is the first step. It was told by a different visionere, as I mentioned. And I respect other visions and people who have their own point of view. I just know, see and feel the difference. And that, I think, is what people have on their mind saying that there was no STAR WARS magic in the episode. I could go on and on in this regard, but I think tht if you know what I am speaking about, then everything is simple. And if you don't understand me, and you don't have the feeling as I have, the it's just our defferent way of receiving things. And in this case you are a winner because for me, the movie was something else than the STAR WARS. My main focus would be the simplification of the universe and the forces acting in it. I think it would be a great STAR WARS movie if they would give it a little bit more soul of the Universe, especially in the force regards. The movie was fun, as the guardians of the galaxy (maybe that was even the target). But when it comes to STAR WARS I know it should be better by the meaning I was telling you about. And let me tell you something. I respect that someone has defferent point of view but I cannot accept it as my own and act that everything is as it should be. I cannot even tell that someone didn't even feel the same way about the STAR WARS as I did. But in the process, he wasn't just as good to deliver his creation as he would like to. I am writing a script of my own and I know how difficuld it can be if you'd like to create your vision properly. It is a hard work to do and it absorbs you completely. For Gourge Lucas it was different, because STAR WARS is George Lucas. Not only him because many people was involved in the creation of the universe and all of them deserves the credit of creating one of the most beloved franchise in the world. And as every single person in this world has his/her own uniqe energy, and everyone has a different point of view and way to express themselfs, the people who met those days, creating the original STAR WARS, were the perfect combination for it. And I think that's just the way it is. In every aspect of life, that involves creating movies, the write combinations can deliver the desirable, feeling, moment, outcome, effect. But I think nothing really happens twice in a life.

P.S. For instance, the combination of people working on prequels was changed, and we had a different results. I can see it right from the design of the costumes, through design of locations, and design of the ships - especially the begenning of the evolution of Imperial starships. There is a lot to say about it, but one thing about the Prequels was as I remembered it from the OT, it was the force - not counting midichlorians. The force worked excactly as before, it was something very respectful, had a broad meaning but always was used the same way. The prequels had its flaws too. For example I think that Palpatine killed to quickly the three Jedi Masters who accompanied Windu in attempt of Palpatine's arresting. But it's just me, and maybe the palpatine was really so strong, and they so unexperienced fighting jedi, that he just tricked them fighting 'against the rules'. And Windu was to smart and to wise to fell on that. That gives me even more reasons to treasure the hard training that you need to accomplish before you can call yourself a master. And We know how force worked in the Force awakens. It was something achieved by someone who never had a proper training and even didn't know the story and possibilities of the force. She heard about the force but never could now how it worked and what was its possibilities. But it just so happens that someone had a different vision and now the fans are arguing about many aspects of the movie. I don't care about the storie so much, I care about the core experience that makes the STAR WARS Univers what it really is. I cannot agree with some solutions provided in the movie. And I remember how happy I was to hear the main theme and STAR WARS logo on the screen. I felt that again. I loved the first moments of the movie. It was a new hope for me really. But it didn't do well for me in the end, although I wanted to believe it will. I will see what will happen in the next Episode though. Maybe there will be a comeback for me. I still hope.

You must know that Captain Phasma is not, precisely, a lowly captain, and it will have importance in the trilogy. They merely introduced the character, but it's high in the chain of command. Basically she's the lead of the Stormtroopers batallions, so... We're not struggling in telling you why Kylo Ren was defeated on the battle. We're telling you that he was severely wounded by a crossbow that blowed all the Stormtroopers with one shot (he was punching his wound all the time and bleeding through the entire battle), that he've just killed his father, that he was troubled and struggling with the dark side of the force the whole movie, and that seems perfectly enough for me. It's fine that you can't believe this or you think this explanation is weak, but it works fine for me. The planet blowing up too soon? Same thing as Episodes IV and VI. It's Star Wars. Really, if you over-analize all the movies, you'll find that the plot doesn't stand very well in ANY of them. It's just an excuse to make an action, fast-paced, character-focused movie. 

And I welcome the return of a good visual storytelling once again. For example, the movie's last scene was visual storytelling as its finest. Something that was lacking on the prequels too. 

i'm have to disagree with you man. I just loved every minute of the movie and i totally anxious to see the sequels. To me this new trilogy already started very better than the last one.

If nobody else reads this response, know that I read it. I enjoyed it, I understand it, and I appreciate it. Well said.

I downloaded it last night. I'm going to watch it again. This time, without the expectations. I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Maybe I'll still have my gripes. Maybe I'll like it more. Maybe I'll have new complaints!

This thread has gone on for a while. Hopefully people accept that is not just some plea for attention, some hipster attempt to be different, or what have you. It's just a movie but it's the first continuation of the story that ended in 1983 and a lot of people hold this series to a high standard.

For better or worse, the first six movies are a piece of George Lucas's soul. Abrams may have done as good a job as humanly possible but... people feel the way they feel.
