Why does everyone hate the prequels? Just watched them, and I LOVED them. I really liked the way they told Anakin's story and his change to the Dark Side.

I have learned from this forum and interacting with young (under 18) people that not everyone does hate them.  I don't hate them even, I just feel utter indifference and disappointment in them.  They felt soulless, cheap, boring, and unengaging.  I can forgive the terrible looking effects, but I didn't care about a single character or event in a world I use to be obsessed with as a kid.  Darth Vader is my all time favorite film character, and I found Anakin to be just awful with whining and pouting and never bought his romance or his turn to the dark side. He just felt stupid and manipulated ("I can save Padme...maybe") by the one person (Palpatine) who had any sort of intelligence and vision.  To boil it down everything new was forgettable and everything old felt perversed with Vader and Yoda (seeing him jump around with a light saber is just so painful to me) being my favorites that I sort of disliked for a time after those films.

The new one isn't perfect, but I think it has more promise to deliver something compared to Phantom Menace.  I don't think we'll really be able to take full stock until this new trilogy is finished.

Around the Network

My second and third watch-throughs have not been kind to "The Force Awakens". If not for Jar-Jar, "The Phantom Menace" would likely have moved ahead of TFA. There was never any hope for "Attack of the Clones".
