I honestly think it's better just to treat the prequels as their own separate thing.

They're just so radically different in tone/acting/staging.

The OT + Force Awakens are all clearly the same style of filmmaking and feel like a cohesive unit of films.

The prequels just feel completely different, like seeing your friend after they've had a lobotomy and no longer have any of the same personality.

If Episode VIII and IX are also more in the vein of Force Awakens ... then the prequels really are going to be the odd three out because they're not much like the other films at all in that case.

BB-8 has more personality in the prequels than any of the human characters and the CG characters with "personality" are way overdone and veer into being cartoons.

Say what u will about the prequels but I find it funny when people say the acting is any worse than the originals. Take Luke for example the scene where Vader tells him he is his father is supposed to be this emotional scene but Luke's acting is so bad it's hard to immerse yourself into it.

The direction/staging/performances are worse in the prequels. There are a few wonky instances of bad acting in the OT but they're not plagued by those moments like the prequels are constantly, nor do they have a dull script with lifeless characters in them. That's another problem, the actors really can't do anything if there's nothing in the script for them to work with.

I cannot take anyone seriously who ranks The Force Awakens above any of the original trilogy and Revenge of the Sith lol. Even putting it above artack of the clones is pushing it. Return of the Jedi is far superior to A New Hope.No real SW fan would say otherwise. I can tell most of you are just getting into SW now or during the prequels.

I have to disagree here. It is better quality wise and as a product of course, vut as a Star Wars movie it does not compare. The opening and closing sequence s in Phantom Menace are better than any part of TFA, including the "forced" scene of someone's obvious death. TPM also had better adventure, which TFA failed at.

Matter of preference really. Only Sith is in anyway a decent movie out of the prequels in my opinion. Phantom and Clones have a few nice moments, but that's it. As movies, they just don't hold up for me.

It's not about preference but about which represent the SW universe better as movies. Of course old movies don't hold up to new movies but it was the same when the prequels came out. Most people praised them, especially The Phatom Menace whichcwas the first and only SW movie to gross over 1 billion. People will say the same about TFA after the hype dies. TFA is just an average movie using the SW name like the Terminator movies after T2.

Inbetween the original 3(best) and the prequels). The Force Awakens is very overated in my opinion. The movie was average at best.

Sounds like TFA because the script was boring and the new character s was uninteresting without goid personalities or clear motivation which the prequels got right. Rey was Luke 2.0, Finn was half Solo and part un clear, tge pilot was irrelevant, the new droid was a R2D2 wannabe and Kylo was an akward Vader/Anakin rehash who had poor casting.

I actually kinda got iritated while watching TFA... i could NOT get the hype let alone rate the movie higher than 3-3.5/5 stars.

The whole rey becoming a master without any training fucking disgusts me. Literally 24 hours since learning of her force sensitivity and she can read minds, control minds, use the saber, etc.

The wannabe death star planet being able to blast an entirely different star system at once by consuming a star... wtf.

Fin is supposed to be a brainwashed, indoctrinated from birth storm trooper, but his first battle and he gets ptsd?

Leiea's acting was fucking cringe worthy....

I just watched TPM again... and honestly its tied for both sucking.

Really bothered me at first too but now that I have had time to reflect I am positive she's been trained.  I think she was part of Luke new jedi acedemy before Kylo screwed it alll up.  I think her memories have been blocked.

Still doesn't make sense as she was a child in the flash back and Kylo had more training from both Luke and Snoke. Tge writing was poor and people need to admit that part screwed up the SW firce concept. You have to be a Jedi master or Sith lord to control minds. I'm on a SW marathon watch and all who cobtrol minds have reached that level. Luke couldn't do it til Yoda completed his training, sane with Obi after Qui-Gon said he was ready for the trials, Anakin learned after he became a Jedi knight in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and ge had the highest midichlorian levels since the force created him. There is not logical way to explain Rey other than the writer not knowing the history.

Rey being able to manipulate minds without any form of training was a travesty. Don't even get me started on Rey and Finn being able to hold their own against Kylo Ren for anything more than 2 seconds. Yeh, Kylo was wounded but let me remind you that Rey and Finn has no training whatsoever with a light saber besides Finn's 30 second duel with a storm trooper hours/days prior and Rey fending off desert creatures.

Sounding bitter man. To say that I(and by extension everyone else) don't have the correct OPPINION but yours IS CORRECT is nonsensical. And a movie that has a 95% on RT can't do that on hype. Look at the phantom menace, Jurassic world, and avatar to confirm that.

TESB was the first movie I was taken to in 1980. Pretty much been a Star Wars fan my whole life. I like ALL of the movies, all minimum 9/10 for me. But I guess I just really like Star Wars. Being a young adult (22 when TPM came out) during the prequel era, during the backdrop of one of the greatest TPM/FakeWars in history - while self involved emo kids cut themselves - the prequels had a lot to say - for me anyway. Feel free to disagree.

What strikes me reading through this thread is how vast Star Wars has become that whole sub-fan groups now exist. For a long time I existed in sort of a bubble that Star Wars was amazing fun and everyone agreed Empire was the best film. When the prequels came out they were universally panned in my group and I didn't enjoy them at all. Now we have a third trilogy that seems my group is split over with most putting it at 3 or 4 (I put it at 4).

Seeing people actually like the prequels or say they couldn't get into original or Force Awakens was best to even worst entry brings home how this series will never please us all. We're too many and too varied now that I really don't envy people having to make next entries.
