Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Splatoon will probably be biggest win for Nintendo this gen

Pretty much, yeah.

It's their most successful new IP in the console space since the Wii _____ series, it's already built up a strong community, and it proves they still have the capacity to create high quality original IP.

Handled right, Splatoon could indeed go on to become one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, which is crazy when you consider that prior to its launch, it was widely forecast as a flop.

I think amiibo, Splatoon and 3DS recover are what Nintendo should be most proud of this gen.

Certainly a lovely addition to Nintendo's catalogue.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo would prefer it if their lower budget wii sports and wii fit and whatnot games were more successful.

Too bad, those days are over! Back to work!

Splatoon will go down as a great success for Nintendo this gen and maybe a start of something exciting in the future for the game.

Still, there are other highlights this gen for Nintendo. X showed how the Wii U can handle such a big game, Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 sort of became platforms in of themselves, and the 3DS managed to persevere despite a slow start and the rise of mobile gaming. Not to mention the revival of Kid Icarus with Uprising, the comeback of Fire Emblem with Awakening and Fates, and being able to step out of their comfort zones with Bayonetta 1 and 2, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Maker, Genei Ibun Roku #FE, Splatoon, etc.

Tbh, Nintendo has done a lot of good this gen, despite their struggles. Sure, their situation is not the greatest at the moment, but there is still fun to be had with games from the past, present, and future.

From a gamer point of view and from the PoV of having a new console seller aside of Zelda, MK, and Smash, yes and a huge one at that. Though when financially speaking, their biggest win is obviously amiibo, big hit commercially and it must bring it a lot of revenue per unit sold.

Though there are some other things that could also take its place before the gen end, mainly 2, one in which Splatoon is included

- Sakurai's implications and what they could lead to about Nintendo and Square Enix having a good relationship, afterall, because of Yamauchi, Nintendo's and SE's relationship hasn't always been that good

- Nintendo getting a established IP in both the shooter genre and the JRPG genre, obviously Splatoon in the former, while in the latter the XC series. XCX seems to be doing quite well in the West going by UK and France numbers, well UK is still horrible but it is atleast 75% up from the XC, while going by VGChartz numbers for XC and the official numbers for XCX in France as of December 16(40k), XCX has already sold in 12 days what XC sold in 2 years in France.

If the NA numbers see such a similar jump, the XC series could be looking to be like Nintendo's established JRPG franchise.

COMG guide to points: 1 point = Raging. 2 points = Beasting. 3 points = Tearing it up. 4 points = Berzerk. 7 points = Rampage. 12 points = Burst. 15 points = god mode. 20+ points = DIVIDING BY ZERO!!! 40+ points = Youkai (originally Pokemon).

-1 = Negabeasting. -5= NegaRampage. -10 = NegaBurst

I agree with this. Depending on how they can expand Amiibo, that may become the biggest win, as it would offer a new revenue stream besides selling traditional game software and/or console hardware.

Nah, Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are still their biggest wins. Without them they wouldn't have turned around 3DS so easily.

You mean the worst selling Nintendo product, excluding virtual boy!!

Agree. Splatoon is an incredible game. Fresh and different and it just plays so well with the controls and everything. This is a new franchise no doubt.

Huge win for N this..

i agree
