Forums - Gaming Discussion - MGS4 on 360....maybe?

So I was readingly my daily does of google news in regards to teh video game industry and I came upon this article.

With a quote from Ryan Payton of Kojima Productions it reads:

"I can tell you honestly at this point, we have not changed the game in any form with the idea of 'oh, we got to do this on 360.' Put aside whether or not we're developing for 360 or not, the game is built on the PS3 hardware, as you guys have known for the past two years or so."

This leads to the possible rumors that it may come out on the 360. Maybe not a launch, maybe not at all. Personally I don't care either way for the franchise, but I know many of you do. All he is really saying is that Kojima and group are not building it with 360's limited dvd disc space in mind. Could there be a 360 port eventually? Personally I think yes.

I think it will, but not this version. They will surely create a remake with more content and they will call it Subs... something, they have done this for MGS2 and MGS3, so maybe this one will come out on the 360 but not the original one.

I'm more then willing to bet we will see MGS4 on the Xbox360 (and PC) at some point, maybe not at launch but maybe 3 or 4 months after. The game is just costing way to much for Konami not to port it over. Its all going to be based on how much money the game makes on the PS3 alone, But even with the current user base its very unlikely the game will break even. On top of that there has been such a huge demand for the game on the Xbox360 front that Konami can't ignore it.

Not only is the game being built for the PS3 hardware, but it's being built to utilise the Blu-ray format as well.

I'm not saying that the game won't appear on the 360...but it won't appear as the same game IMHO.

Also, it's unlikely to appear until a fair bit after the PS3 version has been released.  I reckon as much a 1 year after launch.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Give us a reason why the blu-ray can give an advantage on the game. We know that Kojima want 50 GB disc, but do you really think we really need that much of space ? Many games like Oblivion don't take the full place of a 9 GB DVD, and if MGS continue in the same path the game won't even last 10 hours. And don't give us the High Definitions Graphics reason, Kojima hismself said in a interview with Game Informer that he want to make comparable graphics with other games than pushing the bar higher.

He only needs it for a bizillion hours of hi-def prerendered cutscenes. Which I believe can be converted to either DVD quality or made into real time cutscenes, which is something I'd actually prefer, CG cutscenes were born on the ps1 because regular graphics were to crappy to tell a story. Now with the stunning capabilites of this gen why are we pretending they ain't good enough?

I've also heard from Sony in interviews that it's much easier to port a game to the 360 then to the ps3. Meaning that there is less of a reason to keep ps3 exclusives exclusive. Escpecially in America where MGS has an audience, why not bring it to a system that thrives on action and has a much bigger base. This isn't just smart business this is the only business option for them.  Only they feel like telling stock holder their biggest franchise sold poorly because we put it on the console with the smallest base, even though we knew this in head of time. We watched the sales sink and sink every week, and saw clearly the 360 had a comfortable lead in the US and we completely ignored the cross platform option. I don't know how you'd say that to investors. And what could Sony possibly offer you to stick around? If they foot the bill to some extent they lose whatever compensation their getting off the game, on top of all the other monies their losing.

Cutscenes are not the things that take alot of place on a disk, and don't forgot that alot of the cutscene they use in MGS are historical archives and that take less place than animated cutscenes. And when I say 10 hours, I had count the 3 hours of movies. But you're right on the port argument, they can easely transfert the information and compress it on an other format. But it's the same thing with the PS3, for now many dev. create games on 360 and port them on PS3, it's less expensive, take less time and make more money. Assassin's Creed is one exemple.

No one knows if Konami will bring MGS4 to the 360, but what we can know is Konami will seriously regret not doing it if they don't.

Why's that?  It's already been announced that the Special Edition version of Stranglehold will be on 50GB Blu-Ray, as it will contain the full (and very excellent, if you like shootouts) movie "Hard Boiled" by John Woo and Chow Yun Fat, and that comes out before Metal Gear Solid does.

By the way, if Metal Gear Solid does go multi-platform, I wouldn't expect it for at least a year after initial PS3 release, because Sony Entertainment is also the people financing the upcoming Metal Gear movie.  I'm guessing the Metal Gear folks won't bite the hand that feeds them.
