I really don;t like statements like "no other racing game released since GT6 has sold more, with exception to Mario Kart 8, at 5.87 million as of June 2015." It should be enough to say "only one racing game released since GT6 has sold more, being MK8..." Still shows it's sold very well within the racing game genre.

Imo, MK shouldn't even be considered because it's a seperate genre. GT and Forza are racing sims. Mario Kart is car combat/arcade racing. Comparing MK and GT is like comparing NBA Jam and NBA 2k16. It's just silly.

I'd say it's more like comparing Fifa and Rocket League.

where are all those ppl complaining about sales numbers because it wasn't a ps4 game?

Well they should have ported it to PS4 early in the life of the console, it could have sold millions more.

Good numbers, but also a far cry from previous entries.

They should have, but in regards to being a PS3 title, it did fine all things considered.

Well glad we agree.

Sony is using PS3 games to bolster the PS4 library anyhow. This is certainly a game that could have benefitted from PS4 specs. GT6 lacks polish, has frame dips, pop in, etc. Wasted potential not being ported.

Well, in GOTY lists are both games in the same genre award category? I'm pretty sure they are. Hence they are both racers and thus when you claim sales accolades you can't simply ignore MK. If you want to talk about specific features then absolutely these games are in separate categories. But Need For Speed is in a 3rd category that is neither kart not sim, and then there are still other categories of racer. If you aren't going to put a qualifier in front of "racing game" then MK and GT both belong to that category.

Still not as undertracked as God of War III.

I knew GT6 couldn't have sold as poorly as Vgchartz figures show, obviously still a huge drop from GT5 but good sales nonetheless.

If I were on the board of people who decide these things, I would certainly change the GOTY awards so as to more clearly define the differences between MK and GT. It's absured to think they compete for the same award... if true.

But then you would start fragmenting wards to a ridiculous degree like the grammies. How many racer categtories should there be, because there are several sub-genres of racer? Is a rally game and a F1 game in the same category, and are they in the same category as a sim like Forza or GT? And what category are racers like NFS? And what about motorbike racers, an ATV racers, and sci-fi racers (like Wipeout)?  How many sports genres should there be? Should there be an award for 2D platformers that are separate from 3D platformers? Where you you put 2.5D platformers?

Racers would be split into two. Sim and non sim. Sim would be defined as something that is attempting to simulate real life. Non sim is for any other racer that does not fall into that space. 2D platformers would have their own category and 3D, their own.

both GT games on ps3 undertracked, by quite a bit actually. Amazing how good GT5 did after what didn't look like such a good start. Sales are down in Japan for sure, and in the US i believe as well but i think GT is as strong as ever in Europe where it gets most of its sales anyway.

GT6 doing best in Japan comparatively.

Beastly even when it plummets.
