Forums - Sony Discussion - Hacker claims PS4 Jailbreak is real, confirms RAM dumping & more

Ooh vgchartz with an all white background looks quite nice. Bah was just a glitch on the first page.

Anyway I'm curious if Sony has built in some kind of console banning mechanism like 360 had last gen. Play online and get screwed. Not that that would stop offline consoles getting sold with a bunch of preloaded pirated games up to whatever firmware the hack works on.

A ps4 with steam OS on it, a SteamBox4, interesting experiment, although kinda pointless.

Hacking/Piracy rarely leads to good things. More often then not a few cheaters ruin things for every one else.

Hmm, gamer who lives in my country and several developed and poor country will be happy hearing this, they are hungry for new gen (thanks to globalization influence ). But the haven't got their hand on the original thanks to US economy policy that make the dollar current rate high everywhere.

Anyone remember how fun it was to run homebrew on the DS?

Heck, they even had things such as Akecards to run almost any DS game you wanted. With all the fun games on the DS, I probably spent 1000+ hours on it for a span of several years.

Mainstream piracy won't become a thing anytime soon. But by the end of the gen when the PS5 is on the way I can see it being easily available then and sales could be huge I'm poor countries. This thing could end up doing PS2 numbers thanks to piracy. it's about the only positive. Well I guess I can't begrudge really poor people either. It's the pirates who can afford to buy that annoy me.

Err, as far as I know, Brazil's problem is the outrageous prices of console gaming, but your gaming community should be positively huge! I mean, Mexico's PSN last gen was as busy as the American one was...

If people can get games for free or really cheap, they do save some money to get a system, even if's still on the grey market.

Pirating was a bless to the PS1 and PS2 here, they didn't sell much games (because people burned them or got a pirate copy by $5), but the consoles were everywhere.

360 popularity also has it foot set on that ground.

Games are also really expensive here,,they arw going for BRL 280 on PSN, that's about how much you can pay for a PS2 with like 20 games (pirate games).

Well, you can say that regarding everything. Also, why not just use the American PSN? I am a Spaniard and I use the American and Japanese PSN and XBL...

hmmm, PS4 looks very attractive if they get homebrew running on it.

And hopefully Sony doesn't ruin it...

So Piracy is a plus for PS4 but bad for PC??.

And i already am playing starcraft 2 on my windows 10 pc . But if you think that to be true that just cos the PS4 is X86 it could easy emulate windows your wrong it doesnt work like that. The Original Xbox couldnt even emulate windows 98 but yet it had the specs to run it..

No need to emulate anything if you can unlock the bootloader. You could just install Windows on it! Hackers would need to write some additional drivers though, I don't think Windows supports all the custom parts in the PS4. Most important part would be the graphics driver. The results wouldn't come near a PC with the same specs, but it would still be fun to try it out!

And yes, it was actually possible to install Windows 98 on an original Xbox! Even Windows XP! The installation was a pain in the ass though and no one cared to bring customized drivers for all the hardware in it. But theroetically, you can perfectly fine transform an x86 console into a full-fledged PC. The only point in it is the proof-of-concept though. Anyone who REALLY wants a true PC experience should just get a PC in the end.

Did you see videos of them os's running on the original xbox? they are bad and slow enough without even trying to run a game on top of them.

They were using emulators. As far as I know, it's a 2000's PC...

Things are so connected today, that this would just ruin your connected experience. You have to pretty much pick up 2 consoles, hack one and keep one official.

And that's why I am not really interested...

It led to my English VNs on the PSP. I couldn't care less...

I've always wondered how these guys do this stuff. I'd like to see a stream of them at work trying to hack a piece of hardware.
