Forums - Gaming Discussion - When was the last time a game's graphics blew your mind?

TW3 surprised me, especially the sunsets and the water, the colourful living cities....

Also, Hard Reset's electric effects !

Ori and the Blind Forest, The Order: 1886 and The Witcher 3.

I remember playing those last two games and thinking to myself: "What the heck are they on about when they claim all this crap about diminishing return? That looks so much better than what was possible on the 7th gen!"... =P

Journey :-O

Still stunning imo

DriveClub had the biggest impact but i have to say that battlefront has some awesome texture and shadows that impressed me alot.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

I'm often impressed by current gen games, but the last time i was 'blown away' was Donkey Kong Country for snes. Being a kid that grew up on nes and 2d mario and sonic games, seeing what my young eyes perceived as claymation in a game was crazy to me. It was a "what kind of wizardry is this?" moment for me.

Artistic point of view: Zelda U

Purely from a technical point of view: the original Gears of War. It was the first game which I though started to look somewhat 'photorealistic' (that is, ignoring the color palette) and made me realize how big of a chance HD really was. Funny thing is that I would now consider Super Mario Sunshine to be the better looking game. Realism tends not to age well.

I was also pretty impressed by the gaphics of Ryse when I first saw it, but it wasn't as big a game changer.

Good point, I experienced the same thing. All my other games looked like someone had drawn them. Donkey Kong Country looked almost real to me. The animals, plants, the world even seemed to have depth. The only other moment that was as big for me was when I was first saw a Nintendo 64 with a full blown Mario Kart in true 3d

The Order 1886

Everyone keeps saying its a glorified tech demo. I disagree, it was a glorified dynamic theme.
