Forums - Politics Discussion - White House: Donald Trump's proposal to ban Muslims "disqualifies"* him

Should Trump have a consequence for his actions?

Yes, no one should propos... 261 56.62%

No, we should ban all Mus... 126 27.33%

other 74 16.05%

Total:461

The sooner you realize that Trump is a performer the better. He is not an ideologue, as he doesn't actually have inherent ideas or philosophies, only sound bites and 'gotcha' attention-grabbing quotes.

The very fact that this is a thread is a microcosm of what he's up to. Trump is in it for Trump. Even if he loses the election, he still wins. He gets tons of exposure, and a certain element will lap up anything he says for as long as they live. TV appearances, books, merchandise, he can roll in more ego-stroking and easy cash than any reasonable human being knows what to do with.

Even with all that said, I don't find him to be any worse than the average politician. In some ways he's better BECAUSE he's so bizarre and not system-made. I don't really agree with much of anything that he says, but you better believe that most career politicians are some of the worst human beings out there.

Our political system is sick. It's virtually hopeless, as corruption, greed, nepotism, lack of transparency, incompetence, and a near total lack of accountability are all completely systemic. It's a fact that to win a national election you basically have to be a part of a machine that has already determined basically everything that you will accomplish or be a part of if elected. The 'regulatory' agencies are revolving doors that are staffed with the very powers that they are supposed to be regulating. The PAC and SuperPAC system ensure that above all, money from the most powerful interests vastly trumps the rights, needs, and desires of the average citizen. And with riders attached to bills to get things passed that wouldn't stand on their own, a spoiled congress and senate that don't have to live under the laws that they themselves create that DO NOT READ most of the stuff they sign (they merely vote based on what they are told to do by the dominant figures in their parties for the most part), welp.

Fuck it. Fuck Trump, fuck the Republicans, fuck the Democrats, fuck it all. The entire system needs a reset from top to bottom at every conceivable level.

Anyone who tells you that this guy or that guy or that lady can make a snail's shit of difference is blowing smoke up your ass. The flip side to it is that someone like Trump is every bit as useless and replaceable as any other part of this shit-show.

Merry fucking Christmas.

I wish UK would ban Muslims.

Wouldn't it make more sense to see the correlation between a persons salary and if they vote republican or democrat?

Are we now going to say that a person getting a college degree in engineering is on the same level as a degree in basket weaving?  Well your poll surely lumped the two together and somehow spits out this claim that republicans are now "less-educated".

Those findings are also included; read the sources.

So Republicans make more than Democrats, indicating that society feels that their education is of more value, and then makes the claim that they are less educated?

The info on salary indicates that Republicans are more educated while the other graph (# college degrees) indicates that Democrats are more educated. Looking at the data, I cannot see how anyone can make a claim on whose party is more educated than the other, but that is just me.
I honestly feel that all of this is complete garbage and is purely put out there by the liberal media to paint this false image of Republicans.

But again, you are entitled to think however way you want.  I need some sleep Zzzz

Cheers

But was he actually wrong? I partly blame the Western world for the attacks in Paris, all the way back to the end of World War 1, the Western World has made various screw ups in its handling of the lands of the Middle East which progressively lead to greater levels of animosity towards Western powers AND conditions ripe for the formation of extremist groups. It does take two to tango, and the West has been tangoing plenty when it comes to the people of the middle east.

So, the victims of those terrorist attacks are to be blamed here. Good to know how you think.

Disingenuous statements like that just show how you're unwilling to engage in proper discussion about these things. You know exactly what is meant by "The West is partly to blame", so you can cut the accusations of victim blaming nonsense. The fact you can't actually respond with proper argumentation means you know you've got nothing but empty rhetoric behind your thinking. So, good to know how you think, or don't think as the case may be.

Well, the Grand Mufti of Australia blamed the Western world for the attacks in Paris and he wasn't arrested. Minorities are the only ones allowed to speak freely.

So we should have let the Ottoman Empire live.

The United States thinks it's a secular nation? Ha, that's funny...

But anyway, banning all Muslims seems like a terrible idea... It would only make those extremists hate us even more.

I'm certain than many grad students wish they lived in a world where they were compensated at a level commensurate to or exceeding the educational level of their peers. The fact of the matter is that using salary as a metric of education presumes that women and minorities are paid fairly or that the Republican Party is racially diverse (not largely white). The presumption also ignores that the fact that party income is skewed by the super wealthy making vastly more than the average American, while simulatenously supporting the Republican Party (i.e. fewer people with A LOT more income). It is funny that a right wing publication is noting the less-educated nature of Trump supporters, but you feel it was "purely put out there by the liberal media to paint this false image of Republicans." Come on now lol.

That all being said, your "better educated" wealthy people are also transitioning away from the party.

What do you mean by consequences? Trump I would hope will take a hit in his polling numbers, but it's not like he should be officially disqualified from the race for saying this.

Trump should be punished for what he said. A hefty fine or a few days in prison might solve his big mouth.
