Forums - Sony Discussion - Vita Owners I need Your Help! What Turned-Based RPGs Are on the System?

I have been thinking about getting a Vita for some time (the light blue model looks great) because of how many RPGs are on the system.

However, for me when it comes to RPGs I am very picky. I really only like turn-based RPGs, and I also don't like anime/weeb RPGs like Persona, so if anyone can tell what the non-anime turn-based RPGs on Vita I would appreciate it. Strat RPGS are also ok if there are any besides Disgaea.

Since you are getting a Vita - I'm assuming digital is fine for you?

-Final Fantasy I Anniversary (PSP)
-Final Fantasy II Anniversary (PSP)
-Final Fantasy III (PSP)
-Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection (PSP)
-Final Fantasy V (PSX)
-Final Fantasy VI (PSX)
-Final Fantasy VII (PSX)
-Final Fantasy VIII (PSX)
-Final Fantasy IX (PSX)
-Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster (PSVita)
-Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX)
-Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions (PSP)
-Final Fantasy Dissidia (PSP)
-Final Fantasy Dissidia 012 Duodecim (PSP)

Everything else is pretty much anime like lol.

But I highly recommend Jeanne D' Arc - it may be anime in design but its nothing like anime (doesnt have any of the stuff you would typically see such as what you would see in a NIS/idea factory/etc game).

Jeanne D' Arc is a strategy RPG btw.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Are there any games that are only Vita, or are most the games most of the games worth playing from older consoles?

Well since you dont like Persona or anime games I cant recommend Persona 4 or Ys Memories of Celceta ;P

If you played and enjoyed Tales series - I recommend Tales of Hearts R but that also has anime tendencies. No other platform has this Tales game btw at least not in the west.

Muramasa Rebirth is a good game too  - plays like Odin Sphere or Dragon's Crown - speaking of which Dragon's Crown is another good one. Muramasa has more content on the Vita version but it does have a Wii version. Dragon's Crown is also on PS3 but still a worthy purchase if you dont have the PS3 ver.

Child of Light unless you have it on another platform already.

Soul Sacrifice Delta if you like Monster Hunter like games.

There's a few others as well but like I said majority of them consists of anime themes that you may not like.

Alright. I said I'm really picky when it comes to RPGs so thanks for your help, it's appreciated

One of the BIGGEST oxymorons I've read in quite some time.  So here is a list of turn-based RPGs anime style:

Atelier Rorona Plus

Atelier Totori Plus

Atelier Meruru Plus

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation

Hyperdevotion Noire

Demon Gaze

Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars

Persona 4 Golden

Lost Dimension

And a SLEW of digital PSP turn-based RPGs compatible on the VITA

Nah, Square's style never stroke me as anything resembling to anime ...

Their pretty good at minimizing the influence of Japanese culture in those cases ...

Crimson Gem Saga.

What is a weeb rpg?

Can you maybe give some recent examples of games that fit the criteria you describe?

I'm struggling because you say Persona is too anime for you but I want to know how far that extends.  For example, are games like Suikoden and Wild ARMs too anime for you?  Both are definitely inspired by anime in their characters and plot.

Aside from that, Japanese games make up the majority of the system's library these days, and Japanese games are invariably anime-inspired these days because that's what sells, so maybe this isn't the console for you.

You'd also be depriving yourself of some fantastic games just because of aesthetics, but that's up to you I guess.

Nevertheless, here's a few suggestions that definitely aren't anything close to anime:

- Child of Light

= Dragon Fantasy Books 1 & 2

- Final Fantasy X HD

- Frozen Synapse Prime

- Natural Doctrine

- Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

- Rainbow Moon (sequel Rainbow Skies is also coming to Vita next year)

All the above are turn-based and contain RPG elements.

Also keep an eye out for upcoming games:

- Banner Saga

- Cosmic Star Heroine

- God Wars

- Project Setsuna

- Stranger of Sword City

- World of Final Fantasy

- YIIK: A Postmodern RPG

I know you just stated no anime like games but Persona 4 Golden is an amazing game past the anime artsyle.
