I wouldn't mind a system like Pokemon where you choose your gender at the start of the game , but don't force Linkle as the only option. #Link4life

*** whats next? Female version of Mario as main character? (this actually makes more sense than a female link) Male version of Samus Aran main character? and why? |
Basically, this. Making a female Link doesn't add anything to the franchise.
Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever
Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe
Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor
Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

You said this amazingly well.
The indeterminant gender idea works well in games like Pokemon and Splatoon where your character is basically just an avatar for yourself as the gamer. In the case of Zelda, Link's personal struggle and quest is a big part of the Zelda storyline and while we, as gamers, get to participate in his story we are not central to it. It's the same reason why customizing Master Chief's gender or Solid Snake's gender would be silly... It would hollow out these character's personalities and would make the games about "us" instead of about "them."
I want a female protagonist Link at some point.
As long a the Zelda formula with link remains untouched, then sure bring on linkle in her own unique game, make her as good in her game as Luigi was in his.
If they wanna replace Link, even for one game, how would that make Linkle a unique character and not just a link reskin?
What made Samus a great female character was that she was the star in her own unique game, would she have been the same if she were nothing more than a reskin of a male character in metroid? I think not, for this reason I think Eiji Aonuma would better serve the community by creating a unique game with her as the star...if the game fails, then so be it, at least it was tried and the market forces decided, but if it succeeds then it's one more Nintendo franchise people can enjoy.

I was kinda scared writeing that, sure I would get alot of backlash for saying so.
Anyways they need a new character in zelda universe that is a kickass hero, who happends to be a girl.
Not a reskin of Link. I totally agree with what your saying.

It's a literal translation of her Japanese name.

She isn't Link.
