I really like Nintendo, I'm enjoying my Wii U, but I also wish Wii U was their last home console.

Between PC, Xbox, and Playstation there is enough competition. I really hope the NX is a portable/home console. That might justify its existence.

I like Nintendo games and I would buy more of them if they went 3rd party.

I agree there's no room for 3 similiar console experiences in the market. Still, Nintendo tried to offer a different kind of experience from others during the Wii/DS era, but they were extremely criticized for that.

At the OP, I don't entirely agree. It's true lots of people (both users and industry insiders) have double standards when talking about Nintendo, still mostly thier struggles are due to their own faults. The WiiU hardware design, price and marketing didn't make any sense in commercial terms, also the 3DS has serious issues.

''Nintendo released a purple console that looked like a lunch box, where you felt like a dork owning the machine.''

This one made me laugh, so it's other peoples fault that a company decides to release a device that looks like a lunch box.

To be a whole generation shitting about a console because the external design does not like you is borderline retarded. And it happenend. A lot.

Yes, but if you look at things realistically the purple lunch box matter is just mock. The real reason why most people didn't take the GC in consideration was beacuse it didn't have Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3 and GTA.

and lack of first person shooters to continue a legacy for the Goldeneye/PD gamers. They all flocked to Xbox because of Halo.

Nintendo made no attempt at it, that blows my mind. Goldeneye sold 8.XXm. They conceded to FPS market to MS overnight.

They had Metroid freaking Prime dude, probably the best fps of the gen, they even add multiplayer to the 2nd one. That and Time Splitters 2, the cods and medal of honor among others.

I believe this was due to the lack of manpower (Rare was developing Perfect Dark Zero for GC, but later they were acquired by MS) and for a mis-interpretation of the market. They were committed to create a great first person experince, in fact they developed Metroid Prime, but they didn't realise the market was shifting toward online multiplayer: games like Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike were released in the same time frame when Gamecube's launch titles were likely already in development.

I still dont know why they didnt just promote it with the black version. In black its a very sexy console. Public perception is very important with a consoles launch, the purple just made everyone continue with the "kiddy" comments. And although it's not the only reason for gamecubes predicament, it was definitely a misstep.

Nintendo is the butt of the joke. Yes, but seriously, it's their own fault for refusing to keep up with the times.

They make good games, not games that people think they want. It's not people that will change, but nintendo's policies instead. They still have to make money after all.

Right, people criticize Nintendo because "It's the cool thing to do". People who criticize Nintendo are weak-minded. Nintendo is made fun of because people are insecure. People laugh at Nintendo for offering more gameplay-centric games.

You know, at the start, I considered writing a serious reply, but I gave up, because I just can't take this stuff seriously. Also, even if I could, what you're describing isn't a scapegoat. People don't blame Nintendo for everything that's wrong in the industry, which is what would have to happen for them to be called a scapegoat.
