Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Digitimes Rumor: Nintendo to ship 10-12m NX units in 2016

Well not doubtful if they releasing handheld and home console in same time like is assumed.

Even if it was just the home console, it isn't doubtful. People need to stop pretending that companies make products with the expectation that they won't be a success.

Nintendo has been selling less consoles to the consumer with each passing generation since the SNES (bar the Wii). It is doubtful unless they sell third parties. The hardcore gaming audience doesn't care anymore and 10-12m units is outrageous unless they plan to sell at a massive loss, which likely isn't the case. It needs to be powerful and it needs to attract third parties. If it can't do that it's DOA. This is overly ambitious.

Could it happen? Sure, but the chances are slim.

their projections seem pretty terribad.

PS4- 13-18
XB1- 10
NX- 10-12

Does anyone really expect Sony to only ship 13-18 mil? 2016 and 2017 will be its peak years games wise. Its pricepoint will be lower than it was last year.

I don't know these number just seem off.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

You discredit everything you're trying to say with the first sentense. "Bar the Wii." Literally nothing else matters but their newest product. Prior consoles selling less has absolutely no impact what-so-ever on the sales of the NX. Even though I don't think the NX will be a casual platform, both the Wii and mobile gaming are proof positive that the hardcore gaming audience means jack shit to the success of a gaming platform. Even then, saying it's doubtful unless they sell third parties is a non-statement. There is literally no compelling evidence that it won't sell to third parties. That it won't be, by your metrics, powerful. You're saying it's doubtful based on absolutely nothing. The NX could be less powerful than the XBO and still attract third parties, as proven by the PS2. It can not attract third parties and still be a massive success, as proven by the Wii. The only thing the NX needs to be a success is a good idea with good execution.

I'm readying my thread for the bump.

Uhh, the current Wii U is a perfect piece of evidence for third parties. They don't care about Nintendo now, why will they all of a sudden later? Hell even the astronomical Wii had laughable third party support, and third parties still barely made money on the damn machine. Once that casual audience fizzled out the consoles sales crawled. Is Nintendo going to find that casual audience again?

Like I wrote this numbers are very likely referring to handheld and home console combine, also this info is saying that Nintendo actually targeting 20m but suppliers china think they can supply achieved only 10-12m in 2016.

Of Course that Nintendo thinking that NX will sold much better than Wii U, if they dont think like that ther will no be new Nintendo home console. And they will probably sell third party because NX very likely will have similar architecture and power like PS4/XboxOne and that means easy and fast ports.

Also even 20m isn't too ambitious for handheld and home console, because 3DS and Wii U had similar shipment in their first years combine.

Shouldn't rumors be at least a bit believable?

If this is true and the NX is on or near par with PS4/X1, this could drastically alter the landscape and likely be very influential to MS' future Xbox division decisions. While the PS4/X1 have the power, they don't have the legendary franchises (Mario, DK, Link, etc.). If the NX rolls in with comparable power, it will most likely get 3rd party support and eat into the marketshare of the 2nd largest console.

sony does have UNCHARTED, GOD OF WAR, GRAN TURISMO, FINAL FANTASY, METAL GEAR SOLID, and potentially CRASH/JAK as big franchises tho

This is a joke news right? The console weren't even formally announced and they say they plan to ship more than initial sony prediction? Hahahaha
