Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Only 3 of Nintendo's Wii U games wouldn't fit on a Wii disc

Xenoblade Chronicles X, (22GB) Smash Bros 4, (15.7GB) and Tropical Freeze (11GB) are the only Nintendo-developed games on Wii U so far that would not have fit on a dual layered Wii disc.

Games like Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, 3D World, Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U, Captain Toad, etc would each fit comfortably on a DVD-sized disc like the ones used by the Wii.

In fact, Wii games like Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Other M are larger than most first party Wii U games.

So?

And I don't mean that in a mean way or anything, but seriously, so?

Nintendo continues to be the industry leader in high quality games which don't waste space on your hard drive needlessly.

I don't know if this is a pro or a con. I appreciate the small download size did y most of their games, though. I tend to go retail but the few I did download were quick and painless. There are games on Xbox One that I downloaded and pretty much had to wait until the next day to play.

Just thought it was interesting and wondered what the rest of you thought.

It's kinda crazy how small Ninten games can be, and yet still be so wonderful... x ) I guess size doesn't always matter....

What's funny is their games are of the highest quality of this generation. Mario Kart 8 is simply stunning. They just don't use 10 Gigabyte textures or 20 Million poly models. It's a matter of west and east in my opinion. I've worked with a lot of Nintendo's models in Maya and they're as efficient as I don't know what. The west likes to show off. Bigger is better and the sort.

Kinda expected they were more like 7th gen sized.

I'm noticing that those three games don't come from Nintendo's core studios. XCX is from Tokyo-based Monolith Soft, DKC: Tropical Freeze is from the American Retro Studios, and SSB4, which is only about twice the size of Brawl, is probably only so big because it has over 400 musical tracks.

I guess when Nintendo developers said they didn't need to move onto HD development yet back during the Wii era, they meant it!

Love and tolerate.

It doesn't surprise me. They all look visually beautiful, and not requiring massive space. There are some games that require GB's and GB's and are ugly as hell. One thing that surprises me though, is that smash is almost 16 GB... Damn! I think nintendo has always been pretty efficient with space... just look at what they were able to do with the n64 and those tiny carts.....
