Yep, I'm 99.9% sure the x1 and PS4 will get redesigned. Even the Wii U has a high chance. If Ps4 and X1 don't, I'll eat my hat. I don't own a hat but I'll go and buy one then eat it.

And the reason given for the X1 not getting redesigned in the op I think is wrong. Overheating worries were only for launch designs. The heat given off in the latest X1s will be reduced by a good amount since launch. They can reduce size without fear. Or get inventive with the design like the Ps4. Much better made, smaller and doesn't have a power brick.

Of course we will (And secretly Sony already has).

For sure! Hope so anyways, I'm 100% certain we will for the Ps4, think Microsoft NEED to, the one is just huge compared to the competition and as for the wiiU, no point.

I already replaced my launch day PS4 for the newer revised one. I always do this as I got burnt during the PS2 gen with two units dying on me. The moment there is a revision I go get replace the launch model.

I can imagine the X1 getting smaller but not the PS4. However, if they go down the PS2 route, I can see them removing the power brick. That should help with space and cooling.

The parts used in the PS4 and Xbox One, more notably the PS4, Xbox has some clunky hardware decisions but the size of the box probably is what would make it possible anyway. lol

A console revision that's about 25% smaller uses less power ect, is extremely likely in the PS4's future. They chose wisely on the parts they used, allot of them can easily be made smaller already. There's even PC builds with stronger hardware but the same size as a PS4. It will be easy for Sony to make a PS4 Slim if a PC is already able to have the same form factor. They have an advantage that they can mass produce specific designs where-as PC is primarily through extensive modding. which is not ideal to bring size and costs down.

However, I doubt it will be as small as the PS2 got. I'd be impressed if they did get it that small in the next 2 or 3 years though. I have no doubt they can make a significantly smaller PS4 though. I do wonder if they will make a sku with no optical drive. I can see people adopting a digital only lifestyle for a 20-30 less USD price then a regular sku and it would also cut down on size.

I agree. XB1 really needs it since it's the biggest/bulkiest console and it would help sales a bit I guess.
