With digital sales shares growing and growing (20% of EA's full games sales are Digital, they expect this to double in 3-4 years) I could see both Microsoft and Sony launching a version of their consoles without a disk-drive to lower the entry price for their consoles.

Think we'll get a smaller PS4 akin to how we got the PSone. Not out of necessity, just as a way of reinvigorating sales. Wii U... well let's be honest, it's pretty damn sleek as it is. Add in the whole sales thing and yeah pretty pointless.

Would be nice to see a revised XBox One as that thing is pretty big, but not sure it would really change much for them so would be a bit of a wasted investment. It tends to be the successful stuff that sees revisions, unless it's a purely cost cutting measure.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Nintendo rarely has Slim versions or revisions of their consoles, PS4 and Xbox One are certain.

How much does a bluray drive really cost? If their sold at like 30$, you can bet they dont cost that much to produce.

Does sony and MS really care about selling a console 15$ cheaper? Would you as a consumer buy a 15$ cheaper console that couldnt play games from physical discs?

The big thing for me is the just the size / cooling / power unit, if they can save some $ in the design there thanks to a shrunk die, that in itself will be all thats needed. I dont like the idea of a disc-less console, and hope they dont go that far to lower the price of the units.

PS4 and X1 are going for the long haul, so yeah.

I hope the Wii U gets a cheaper revision kinda like the Wii had. Maybe they could get the price down to $199 with a few games.

I think it's safe to say there will be at least one console re-design. Perhaps a smaller PS4?

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, yeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

what he said. To elaborate. If the PS4/XB1 is still being made when chip foundaries transition to a 14/16nm process. They simply wouldn't have a choice but to release revised consoles. unless of course they just like the idea of paying more for everything. And by more for everything I mean even more than what they are paying now.

And to elaborate further, I think it's kind of a silly question. No offence to the op (maybe a little :p) but there's no reason to suggest a buck in the trend. It provides a way to reduce production costs even more and a great marketing opportunity.

As well as reducing power consumption which reduces heat, which makes systems quieter etc.... there are a number of reasons why a revision will absolutely happen.

If you mean the NX, then, yes.

All joking aside, Sony always makes a slimmer, cheaper model, and the XBone is way to big and ugly not to get a revision.
