Forums - Movies & TV - Star wars prequel haters hit a new level of low.

As the years have gone by, I have come to realize many things. One of those things is that there really is only three Star Wars movies and everything else is just... noise. The original trilogy was all we ever needed. It's story, complete.

They're pretty much ridiculous at least in Episode I

I'm looking forward for Episode VII on midnight December 16.

This is hilarious. And so true. Despite liking the prequel fights myself and being impressed by all the choreography, I couldn't help feel like a lot of the stuff going on screen was so unnecessary. Like Annakin and Obi-Wan constantly spinning their lightsabers like they were batons. These are weapons meant to kill the opponent, and 3/4 of the attacks looked like they would never connect even if the opponent stood still.

So even though the fights in the prequels are a lot more impressive in terms of speed, choreography and flashiness, they are silly. Which is why I can see people who enjoyed the original trilogy hating on them, not necessarily because of sheer prequel hate.

And in the OT, George Lucas saw the jedi more as samurais than ninjas or kung fu masters. He even had the jedi hold the lightsabers with two hands for the most part. It may have been slower and less flashy, but it had a lot of style. My favorite dual is between Vader and Luke in The Empire Strikes Back. It didn't need a lot of flashy moves, the fight actually made sense for the most part, and most importantly, there was a lot of emotion and even a sense of urgency on Luke's face as the terrifying monster is coming at him with both the force and the lightsaber. So much substance.

That's not to say I am some prequel hate-monger. It's called having an opinion.

Yeah, Star Wars fans are a very whiny and entitled lot. Like, even worse than gaming fans.

Count me in the "Prequels should be flushed down the memory hole and never be spoken of again" crowd. It truly is astonishing that with total autonomy and basically an unlimited budget at his disposal, the Prequels are the best that George Lucas could do all on his own. They're not much of a step up from Howard The Duck in terms of the writing and acting (in fact they might be even worse in some instances), but at least with Howard you can't blame that all on Lucas, as he didn't direct or write the film all on his own, just produced it.

Ironically for me though, when it comes to the original trilogy and the prequels, my favorite (or least hated in the Prequels' case) installment in each trilogy are Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace respectively. It seems like everyone universally shits on these two movies the most while praising the likes of Episode III as the best of the prequels and arguably one of the best in the series, despite it being a tossup between II and III for worst SW movie period, and both among the worst movies of all time for me. So while some folks enjoyed the prequels and will defend them to the death, I enjoyed Jedi and will continue to defend it to the death, as well as defend why Phantom Menace is actually the "least worst" of the Prequels.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

They may not be good movies but they're very entertaining and beautiful to look at, which I can't say for the old movies.

I'm 40 and I like the prequels a lot. Maybe more than the originals. My fav Star Wars proprerties are probably the Clone Wars 2d cartoons, the Clone Wars 3d tv series, and the KOTOR games.

That (totally) Phantom Menace video is hilarious lol.

At OP tho you said 3 was your favourite of the series... I mean 3 has 1 great thing about it for a Prequel movie i.e. Jar Jar doesn't have a single spoken word. But it does also have someone dying of a broken heart... which I just can't ever stomach in terms of a plot for adults, just... nope.

As for the OTT light saber fights tho... I enjoy um, just kinda switch the brain off and have some nice eye candy, they add nothing... but yeah, Eye candy is always good as long as it goes hand in hand with good story (broken... heart.... no)

YES. These short animated SW bites are imo some of the best things to happen of the prequel, and also because I go weak at the knees for anything Samurai Jack related!

I watched the original trilogy as a kid but went on to watch them again and again as I got older. I thought Jedi was the best and eventually fell in love with Empire. Anyway, I watched Episode I and was very disappointed. I actually fell asleep the first time I watched them. It did grow on me because it was "laying the foundation". I really enjoyed AotC and RotS, though.

So what's wrong with me? A guy who saw the originals in their original form and saw the special editions and prequels and doesn't hate the latter two? Either I'm very forgiving of I just enjoy the movies without picking them apart. At this point, I love all six. Nobody can tell me what to hate.
