Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: the heavily losing fronts of PlayStation that nobody talking about.

PlayStation's weakness is their first party lineup/output. The few ips they have are nothing to write home about. Third parties its where's its at.

Oh, and also that they have completely butchered Vita and PSTV. Not a single retailer is carrying sales on Vita games, much less featuring them in adds or websites. Gamestop is the only one, but because of the limited and exclusive blue Vita.

What guarantee can I have of owning a playstation console... If it will be left forgotten by the manufacturer itself if it doesn't sell well?

Where's Twisted Metal? Wipeout? Genji? Siren? Freedom Wars? Uncharted/Little Big Planet/God Of War are the only established ips they have. The Last Of Us/The Order are fairly new.

i know many, that are kind of disappointed until 2015.
yes 2016 will be great. but before? very dire. nothing you could not play on every other platform too.
and don't bring up the other exclusives. i talk about the BIG! ps exclusives. the ones, that have a big fanbase and many ps fans bought (unlike the japanese games)
gow, gt, uc, the last of us

and for that audience, everything other does not matter.
an xbox one without halo, gears and forza also has "no exclusives" even if it has saclebound, recore, sunset overdrive and 100 other exclusives
that's how the random casual fan looks at the platform. they don't care for listwars and stuff they don't care about. does the platform i bought has the games i want yes or no? nothing else matters. and in the first party department sony did not delivered in theire eyes so far. i totally understand that perspective. nothing wrong with that

If you take Halo, Gears and Forza was there any 1st party besides Kill Instinct and Replay?

And since Forza Sells less than even Driveclub, Gears haven't release yet and Halo just release you would say that before October MS fans had nothing exclusive to play?

forza 5, forza horizon 2 and halo MCC were all released before october
but yes, if they did not release any of that games, sure xb1 would have "no first party exclusives"

that's how this stuff works for the casual fanbase outside of gaming forums

If you are counting Forza and Horizon you need to count Driveclub, don't you think? And if you want to count MCC then Killzone, UC DC, TLOUR should count don't you think? So you either consider 1st party on Sony bigger than MS or you are only talking about your taste, and that is useless to discuss.

Are you sure they are that popular ? I have never heard about them, except for outside xbox, and that only because they are featured on eurogamer to fill the weekend draught.

Yes, im pretty sure. Jwittz has over 1.3 Million sub with 200 millions total channel views and GameXplain has over 500K with 300 millions total channel views. And those are only the surface of the nintendo fan channel....

Xbox doesnt get as much praise but it's near there with all those Halo, xbox addictionz, etc. But if you include Minecraft in there, it would triumph all since minecraft is a Microsoft game now tbh.

PlayStation Access has over 850k subs so that's pretty good.

Probably because the 30+ million ps4 owners are too busy playing and buying games to worry about trivial stuff like that.

Close to 80% of sales for the new need for speed were on ps4 alone as are most of Ubisoft game sales.
Xb1 and Wii U are smaller userbases and libraries so of course they have more time to do that stuff.

That's my take on it anyway :)

I feel sorry for you if you actually believe that. But to use your logic against you: Sony fans on this site mostly talk about how much their PS4 has sold while Nintendo fans constantly hold online tournaments on this site.

And there are much more Sony related videos on youtube than Nintendo ones anyway (22 million vs 9 million), so I guess you're double wrong.

Isn't this a "sales" site?

Plus you seem pretty upset over the popularity of ps4 and its sales figures. Not to mention you even know how many videos of ps4 there are which sounds like I'm right. I would never know or care about something like that, as I'm sure the majority don't either.

It's a given the most popular console would get a lot of press , that's normal.

PlayStation Access is the offical PlayStation U.K. The counterpart is Xbox UK, not Outsidexbox since this was originally a fan channel (now i believe they have some tie-in with microsoft), like an IGN but for all things xbox related.

the PS Access is a pretty good channel btw, you guys should all check it out :).

While they are counterparts, the contents of PS Access is similar to Outsidexbox based on what I saw. PS Access is a very good channel. - much better than what a fan channel could do.

That kind of fan base requires long running exclusive series, with unchanging, focused, and distinctive characters.

Xbox focused most of their attention to the Halo and pushed it hard. Nintendo had enough time to establish everything, and they know how to create, and push an appealing mascot characters.

Sony dropped most of their distinctive characters as they entered PS3 before they got fully established. Essentially leaving only the Ratchet and Clank. With disastrous launch of PS3, they didn't had time to push them.

Game that got the focus in Playstation 3 was Uncharted series. But Nathan Drake doesn't have any distinctive characteristic outside of his given persona. He just a generic dude if you take him out of context. Also, Sony really didn't tried to push Nathan Drake to be face of Sony.

Nintendo is repeating same character over and over again not because they can't think of new characters. They are intentionally doing that to keep them 'updated' as a relevant face of Nintendo.

Give Sony some time. They will think of something new, or they will push Ratchet and Clank far enough to create fandom like Nintendo and Microsoft is doing.

Sly Cooper was back too from the PS2 era. As did Kratos. And the Twisted Metal characters.

And Nathan Drake doesn't have any distinctive characteristics? Do you want him to wear the same coloured shirt in every game?

I think you're forgetting that Sony let's their devs decide what to work on, which is why many create new IP or new characters.
