Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 & XB1 install base hit 500k in China

Thanks Zhuge.

Makes you wonder where the ceiling is in China over the course of the generation.

I think price is a very big factor there. The Xbox One for example still costs $470 in China at retail which is considerably expensive for a US consumer, let alone a Chinese consumer who most likely will have a lower salary.

I think once the prices really come down we could see faster adoption of the consoles, but realistically speaking I do think the ceiling is fairly low and we're not going to be seeing huge sales in China.

Even last gen imports peaked at around 2 million per year for all 3 major consoles (Wii, PS3, 360) and at their worst were around/under 1 million per year. So this gen I doubt we're going to see much different even with consoles now being legal.

FFX best selling ps4 title? Wonder if FFXV will make it to China (officially)

Sony announced they plan to bring XV to China at the same time as worldwide launch. Yes, officially. :)

And PS Vita?

Well they didn't say anything about Vita... so I don't think it's doing amazing.

Not really.

The news comes from Shanghai Oriental Pearl who announced this during the FGF Game Developers Conference in Shanghai today. If you click the link you'll see the picture with the slide which says that the install base has hit 500,000.

Not to mention that every single reputable Chinese news outlet is reporting on it.

Hahaha you actually made your own site???

Please tell me you did it just to shut that annoying dude up!!!

Good place to start, hopefully there will be more money put into games for the region. An Ip Man game for instance.... (Typed soon after watching Ip Man)

Sony just announced on stage that they are working with 70 local Chinese developers to bring games to China + the West so hopefully we hear more soon. For now though they are mostly ports of PC/Mobile games to console but I have heard there are some original games in the works.

to answer your question no just click on the link to his site!!!!!

Hope they put some effort in, cause if it is just stuff people can play elsewhere already I have big doubts about increasing the audience. They need some groudbreaking stuff. Maybe the VR stuff will do something for them....

console gaming will never be big in China. China is totally dominated by PC and smartphone gamers, mainly free2play :P.

I'm glad the ps4 is in the lead tho.
