But what was the point of this thread?

Well I was trying to make this point. That every tool has limitations, but only a master craftsmen can make a masterpiece, even out of the simplest of tools. Putting superior tools in the hands of a amateur will not yield the same results.

In short I'm saying innovation is driven by the craftsmen (gamedesigner) not the tools (hardware).

Just a opinion

I fully agree with that.

However even the best craftsmen are only as good as the "ingredients" they can use.

There is no harm in makeing it easy for the craftsmen, and giveing them plenty of power to use from, and a easy system to develop to.

It's a combination of level design, soundtrack, characters, bosses, story and gameplay that fix in your head and make you urge for the next entry

Yes up until the game cube Nintendo used to give their developers hardware that was technically competitive. Though the N64 and GC had some disadvantages in the form of media storage.

Nintendo magic

In a more serious note, I will always love how Nintendo puts gameplay over everything else in their games, they always end up fun and many with really cool mechanics and what not.

I also love their different artstyles for their franchises, and their soundtracks are something I always can enjoy as well.

I have many reasons to love specific games or franchises of Nintendo, but all of them always have this, and that is for me what makes Nintendo games great

So what made them great? Everything about them. If judging by modern AAA standards, they would be AAAA games. Graphics, sound, challenge, control, size and value. The most ambitious games in the industry, and it showed.

Yeah the sense of wonder that new games on new hardware produced, definitely is and was a big factor in achieving success. The DS and Wii managed to replicate that sense of wonder through using the touchscreen and motion controls as their draw cards rather than graphical bling.

That sense of wonder the Wii U never really had. No graphical bling and no new way to play, the second screen gaming never really caught the imagination of consumers or developers

Yeah gameplay should always be first, but the sad thing is good gameplay is harder to advertise than good graphics

Make Nintendo Great Again

Well to be literal, the way the game is made and what is in the game just sparks pleasure to humans because of the way humans are. We just like the way Nintendo has us stomping on monsters, collecting coins, and saving girlfriends from Turtle monsters.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

Their games are extremely polished at launch. Excellent gameplay mechanics. The obsession to put something new or different in their franchises (though that, sometimes, is a double-edge sword). They are not afraid to make changes to the hardware (motion controls, double screen, 3D...), not merely graphic power upgrades, something that actually affects to the gameplay. And games for everyone. Really, look at the state of the game industry nowadays, it's complicated find great games that are suitable for everyone. Almost every AAA is +16, and have violence in any way. Plus their main focus in their games is "fun", not competition.

I agree fun games are better than pretty games. The thing is pretty games make better adverts.

AAA games I guess older people spend more on games. so that kind of dictates a lot of games that are made.
