Forums - Gaming Discussion - Playstation 4 has sold-through 30.2 million units worldwide

Have people forgotten when Sony say sold, they really mean shipped. Or are they more confident now to use ''sold'' more truthfully these days???

Sony has been very good this generation about making things clear between sold-in (shipped) and sold-through (sold to customers).  Given that this PR statement specifically says "30.2M PS4 owners worldwide" there isn't much reason to doubt that this is sold-through.

There is a difference between sold through and sold in.

Sony report both. They have sold in 29.3 million as of September 30th 2015 as they mentioned in their earnings release.

This 30.2 milion is a sold through number as of November 22nd and includes consoles sold at retail to end users.

But does it include digital sales :P

Quite impressive. It is really incredible that Sony has been able to move systems at this pace without Gran Turismo, Uncharted, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and so many more of their larger franchises. That bodes very well for the next couple of years.

PSX should be very interesting. I am sure if they win Black Friday, it will be made well aware. If they can get PlayStation Vue out on a much larger scale, and set a sold launch and price for PlayStation VR, they should be well on their way to breaking records next year.

Not really, mulit plats sells consoles primarily. Has the strongest hardware, you wouldn't choose X1 for multi would you? Quite sure countless and countless research shows the majority of households have one console. One console that has all the games is what individuals go for.

It includes: digital sales, units forgotten on boats that went missing in the Bermuda triangle, abandoned warehouses, millions of unique accounts logged into PSN, amount of accessories sold, user engagement measured by Cerny's genius equations, etc. Which leads me to conclude Sony has really only sold about 2M consoles worldwide. Maybe less.

You right now.

http://bgr.com/2014/04/25/xbox-one-production-update/ That was for last Apr 2014, if I was a betting man I would say that Microsoft's production month by month is not being kept at a fast capacity, as much as the numbers here may think.

As for the idea that its selling faster than the xbox360, that may have been reference to selling "software" not hardware itself. That could very well be the reason why no update to numbers from Microsoft, there is still a surplus of units still in the chain.

Vs Sony having to increase production.

Last Quarter Microsoft combined xbox360+Xbox one and early in the year the total was 1.6 million for That sales Quarter. So based on no new info on production being ramped up for hardware has Microsoft really close to 16 million at all based on just last spring production was near being haulted?
