Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forced Windows 10 download?

Yeah, thankfully i was able to delete that stuff, before they made me upgrade from Windows 7. If they'd give me the option to make 10 look and function like 7, i'd download it. I just down't want/need all of the crap that newer versions of windows do.

Yep it's really bad for customers but I kinda appreciate that they're pushing so hard to have very high install base so early in the lifecycle. Overall this could benefit everyone in the end.

Sadly, it's already downloaded onto my system by now. Choosing not to upgrade to it, however. Just pisses me off that MS shoves this crap down our throats even when we specifically mention that we don't want it in the options they gave us.

Just when my opinion of MS has improved enough for me to consider getting an XB1 for the holidays, they pull this crap. >_<

Well to be fair, you've had that GWX logo on your system tray for upwards of 10 months now without looking into what it might be doing, considering the article about how to deal with it was published "Posted 08 April 2015 17:31 CET by Jan Willem Aldershoff" it isn't really that MS are just pulling this crap now, it's just that you've chosen not to deal with it til it has caused an issue for you.

I wouldn't really be making your console choice based on this update tho, altho that said... if you have a download cap on your internet I'll inform you right now that the BC feature of the X1 is going to make shit of your data cap! not only do you need to redownload compatible versions of the games you might have on disks (completely for free) but each game package includes the 350mb emulator set for the games running on the X1, basically.... don't trade in your X360 when upgrading to the X1 if you want to keep playing some X360 games.

Yeah the issue was a few months back they changed that update KB3535583 from being optional to recommended to get more people to have it on their system, now that it has turned into nagware if it's still left running on Win7 popping up with stats about how many people are loving Win10 and How easy it is to update so I've had a few calls to help people remove it completely, should also add that update to your list of blocked updates just so it doesn't redownload again, can always unblock it later if you want to upgrade since the free Get Windows 10 program runs for the whole first year of the OS being on the market.

After trying it out on my stepdads laptop after a visit to aid him with Uni coursework and generally seeing and knowing all there is and is kept from me with the new OS, I can't say I'm going to upgrade anytime soon, especially since I plan on new hardware upgrades this year and the next which of course windows 10 is very much against. I'll also likely be waiting for a full seperate version that costs money, all this "upgrade" does is remove my windows 7 license making it impossible for me to use my previous OS and then have balls to say I cant upgrade most of my rig. I'll likely be sticking wth 7 until MS figure out who they are alienating, until then I'll watch and wait for Steam OS to evolve with time, I'm in no rush.

Yeah when you "upgrade" to that version of windows 10 for free it basically turns your license into an OEM license tied to the hardware inside your machine, you can change around some bits and pieces with no issues at all but I've seen issues mostly with going from normal HDD's to SDD and 100% of the time when changing motherboards, that license is as good as gone if something happens to your motherboard, which... is just bollocks really. Adds 100euro to the disaster that is a blown motherboard.

lso a thing to note is that any current licenses on sale are all OEM's from what I've been trying to find which is why I'm waiting till next summer to see what the full price of the retail licenses wll be, if they shape up 10 by then and it's changed a deal from now and retail isn't so expensive then I might go for it, if not then I'm fine with sticking to 7 for a few more years until another OS pops up.

Thing is hw wise is that I am alreadyd eciding on a new ram kid, another SSD, a new CPU model which might possibly mean a new mobo but I won't worry about that until next year, allI know is that some of those new changes would upset Windows 10 and I'd rather not lose my 7 license and then get locked out because I upset MS.

I just hope that hw policy doesn't extend to retail keys, if it does we are totally fucked and benchmark gamers are completely fucked over, MS hopefully knows this for the future because it sure as helldidn't work with Ubisoft and it's not working so swell with EA (SW BF has a form of hw DRM too).
