Forums - Sales Discussion - Fifa and Destiny biggest digital sellers in October

https://www.superdataresearch.com/blog/us-digital-games-market/

The worldwide digital games market hits $5.5 billion, up 7% year-over-yearIn the lead-up to the holiday season, total digital games sales hit their highest point for the year so far. With the exception of pay-to-play MMOs, all segments managed to grow their revenue. Digital console revenues rose 14% year-over-year to $375M, driven in particular by a spending increase in North America. The growing install base for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One drove digital console earnings by 41%. Global digital PC earnings were up 6%, totaling $622 million, as gamers in Asia pushed sales by 53%, proving themselves more accustomed to purchasing full PC games upfront. The size of the global mobile gaming audience maintains its momentum: the total monthly active users was up 13% year-over-year, totaling 2.3 billion in October. As emerging economies like India open up to mobile gaming, the growth curve behind average spending is slowing, increasing only 7% to $2.1 billion.

This isn"t right

This can't be right, 4 of those in the top 5 are over a year old and the top earning digital game is FIFA 16, in North America.

Halo 5 was released in October to no competition and with all the fuss about digital, didn't chart. It can't be right.

So much for 50% digital sales for Halo 5. It could be that they are only counting actual digital sales and not the packed in voucher codes that came with hardware bundles. Most people either already had an Xbox One and bought the retail version of Halo 5 or they bought the hardware bundle, almost nobody bought the digital version alone by itself. So compared to major multiplatform games its not surprising that it didnt make the list.

This must be right. Halo came out and how did fifa 15 top?

Wut? Where's Halo?

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

looks like numbers pulled out of their arse and not very believable at all, not suprising really as they have no way to actually measure such numbers unless MS, Sony et al explicitly provide them.

you could belive the console list if it was for the year

@ nanarchy, they all pull numbers out of their arse it seems

to some extent yes, but they usually at least have some sample retail outlets that provide them numbers which they can then base their estimates on (rightly or wrongly). That isn't possible with Digital, you either have the numbers direct from MS, Sony etc or you have nothing and therefore make shit up.
