4 years after the release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Of course, not with the same circumstances. Let's start:

1. Console has an expensive underused controller.
2. Specs/Online (some parts) behind competition.
3. No third party support.
4. Big droughs.
5. Library has mixed feelings around the userbase.
6. Delays are constant.
7. Company is not making a lot of money like they wanted to.
8. The 4th year software lineup consists on games announced 3 years ago/delayed games/HD remasters/arcade ports.
9. The new hardware has an official codename and every rumor around points a release date after the 4th year of the current console, and you imagine the most exciting videogame device with an amazing library because the company is going to have to be full on it.

So, considering all of these points, would you mind if Microsoft or Sony decided to release a new console that MAYBE could fix most of these situations? Take in count the following:

• Current announced software is not going to justify the controller.
• Online has a little improvement, but they are not going to modify a lot in the current hardware, most likely in the next one.
• Third party won't come back (tbf, it will most likely keep away the next one *shrugs*).
• The first "big" game announced for the console coming next year is an HD remaster/port of a 10yo game coming until march.
• If the current library doesn't appeal to you, maybe the announced games won't either.
• Nothing guarantees no more delays.
• Eh... everyone is excited for the new hardware and their plans on another market place (I guess?).
• The last announced games were not so hot in everyone books...
• More rumors keeps pointing a new piece of hardware coming soon.

Under these circumstances, of course they wouldn't mind. Who on the right mind would? :P

Well, maybe they have something to say that we nover imagined. And considering you have PS consoles, what would you think of the PS4 in these circumstances?

With that list of course no one would care, they also wouldnt care when it came out, once burnt twice shy.

I wouldn't mind, really. If the system had no chance of beign "revived", like we wished for Wii U back in 2013, then I would be fine with them releasing a PS5 soon. But I would want some privilege! Like a free game for those who bough the previous console, or something like that.

An ambassador program?

It's hard to tell. Because Sony doesn't place us in that kind of situations.

That being said, I have a Wii U, and I don't mind Nintendo releasing the NX in 2016.

Why the hell would they release a new console that soon?

PS4 just has to ride out the wave of success it has building... and its not going to end anytime soon.
It ll get shrunk and cheap and sell by the truck loads, like the PS2 was.
Eventually we ll probably see the 149$ PS4.

New console before 2019? unlikely imo.

Imagine PS4 is on the Wii U situation.

Yes, an ambassador-like program would be enough and satisfying for me (and I believe for most people as well). But whoever does this should not market it like Nintendo did with the 3DS, I mean, don't do the "here's the X program as an excuse! Pls Accept it!". It would be smarter to offer it like an incentive to jump into "next gen", or next console, next "thing", whatever... I think you know what I mean. :P
