Best year of gaming is entirely opinionated. This year has been lackluster for the most part. There have been good games but many would say this year was kinda bad. 

Of course though, it depends on your tastes of gaming. There was some major awesome titles this year but honestly it could have been better, IMO.

Pillars of Eternity
Fallout 4
Cities Skylines

Best year in gameing? not so sure.

2015 was probably one of the worst years in gaming for me. To be honest, it may be the worst I've experienced. There wasn't a single game to come out this year which really stood out to me. Although, next year is shaping up to be one of the best in history.

Best year since 2001? I don't think so. For me, this was not a good year at all. So far, I think I got maybe 5 games this year, 2 of which were remakes/remasters and 1 that was a sports game. Granted, I plan on getting a few more by year's end, but a disappointing year overall, nonetheless.

As for the 5 games I bought:

1. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection - 10/10 (I love all 3 games, especially Among Thieves)
2. MGS V - 9.5/10 (amazing gameplay, disappointing story)
3. Batman: Arkham Knight - 9/10 (really good game, but I still liked City and Asylum more)
4. Majora's Mask 3D - 8/10 (barely played the remake, but I do like the original version, even if it is my least favourite 3D Zelda)
5. NHL 16 - 7.5/10 (same problems NHL has had for years, but it's still really fun with friends, and HUT is addicting)

Splatoon 9.5/10 - amazing game. Can't stop playing it.
Yoshi's Wooly World - 8.5/10 - Looks great, plays great.
Majora's Mask 3D - 9/10 - Great story, interesting 3 day concept. One of the best Zelda games.
Project Zero - 8/10 - Very Japanese game. Flawed but fun.
Pokémon OmegaRuby - 9.5/10 - One of best pokémon games nicely updated.

Mentions to:

Super Mario Maker - 7/10 - Fun, but I'm not great at making levels and there are too many automatic and troll levels.

Edit: Pokémon came out last year, but I didn't pick it up until earlier this year.

Witcher 3 is as close to perfection as a game can get imo

Halo has some things that bug me enough to drag down the score, but the gameplay is amazing and multiplayer is amazingly smooth and fast, plus I'm a fanboy, so I love it enough to put it 2nd despite it objectively having some issues.

Tomb Raider is the overlooked gem of the year. It is absolutely amazing, and a true joy to play.

Forza, cus I love racing, and it does just about everything right

Fallout 4....is a great game. But a very flawed one. After 2.5 days of playtime I'm honestly "already" quite bored of it. Obviously 2.5 days is nothing to scoff at, but in a game this big it kinda is, especially when I've logged a day and a half on Tomb Raider and never once came remotely close to being bored.


But yes it's been a fantastic gaming year as far as I'm concerned

Best game of the year, Bloodborne - 10/10

Biggest disappointment of the year, MGS V - 7.5/10

Im trying to think of games I bought and really enjoyed and all I can think of is Rocket League, Splatoon and Bloodborne. Sticking to a 20 point scale I guess it goes :
4. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - 8.0
3. Splatoon - 8.5
2. Bloodborne - 9.0
1. Rocket League - 9.5

Guess its time to scroll though a wiki and see what released but thats never a good sign

Edit: Honorable mention to Life is Strange, I still have 1 episode to go so I wouldnt put it on my list. Ive loved it so far but who knows the ending could be shit.
Added MonHun4U in at 4. Its been a long time I forgot it even released this year, especially when the next game is almost out in Japan.
I dont know maybe there are a few 7.5-8's that I just havent played because Rocket League, hell maybe even an 8.5 or 2 but overall a rather meh yeaar. Rocket League mostly makes up for that though because FUCKING ROCKET LEAGUE!!!

Splatoon was basically the only 2015 game I played :p

But I played a lot of other games in 2015 so I didn't feel bored or felt lacking games to play
