Forums - Nintendo Discussion - M. Pachter: 'Nintendo's new console needs GTA, Call of Duty and FIFA to avoid Wii U disaster'

- Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter talked during Siftd‘s newest Pachter Factor episode about the upcoming Nintendo console and how important those titles and third party games are in the future success of the console in .

- on what makes a person pick a particular console he said:

“But third-party support, so you should be as a gamer indifferent among any of the three consoles except for first-party content,"

"Because you should be able to play Madden, FIFA, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto on any console you wish, and then the deciding factor becomes whether you can play Nintendo content, Microsoft content, or Sony first-party content."

- on how important third party titles affected the sales performance of the Wii U and how he thinks history will repeat for the next Nintendo console if those titles aren't available to possible Nintendo console buyers once again:

"Nintendo lost its way by not having GTA on this console, not having FIFA on the Wii U, and if the aren’t on NX then it is doomed before it launches. So, that’s the way to make it succeed..."

- on Nintendo focusing in first party titles but not securing big third party titles:

"Where I think Nintendo lost its way, and the reason that I have been so harshly critical of Nintendo leadership in the past is they were too focused on first-party software and not focused enough on keeping third-parties engaged."

- on his "love" for the gamepad:

"Third-party support is the only way that the NX is going to succeed, and not being the Wii U. So, the Wii U with the GamePad just sucked. It made your arms tired, it had a crappy battery life, it didn’t add a lot to the gameplay, and the best games don’t even use the GamePad."

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Thats kinda obvious, in order to be a Primary console like the Ps4 or X1 you have to have those kind of games and the rest of 3rd party titles.

If the NX is going to be another secondary console from Nintendo like the Wii U, i dont see how it could be successful.

I agree with CoD and Fifa. GTA has never been on a Nintendo system, and when it has been (ChinaTown for the DS) if flopped, I think the first time a GTA game actually flops. Also, I don't think Take2 cares about Nintendo anymore, the other big publishers might release some things (specially Ubisoft and Activision) but T2 really has nothing that can effectively catter the Nintendo userbase, so they won't even try.

If I'm wrong and they bring GTA V, GTA VI or RedDeadRedemption to the NX, though, I'll be happily wrong.

Nintendo needs, at the very least, 1/4 or 1/5 of the support the PS devices get. Less than that would make regular consumers look away from the NX.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Patcher dosent give up, does he?
Well, to give him credit, he is right to an extend.I guess after all those years he is learning something after sll, even if it is obvious.he exagerates like always, as the lack of third party is not the only reason the wii u failed, as the gamepad alone isnt too, but he is right that the NX needs third party. Not that it needs in the level he said, thought it would be great to get GTA back on board, but getting back all the japanese companies and some western developers, like ubisoft activision and EA( hard but really helpful), would be more than enough to give the console a chance of success

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

'Made your arms tired'? This just proves rights there, that he has never actually touched a WiiU gamepad. Otherwise he would know that for all its bulky design it's actually not that much heavier than the pro controller.

And yes, third partys should be on the next console. It's a no-brainer.

He's right. People would love to play gta, cod, mario kart, smash, Fifa and the like, all on one console. Third party games sell consoles.

They don't need those games, just need to not release with such a shitty controller.

Wii U had both COD and FIFA... So... Sure Patcher. Keep talking.

for once, he is right...

unless NX is as revolutionary as the Wii

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

The NX is going to need more than just those games to be successful...
