Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 5 : "Industry sources support our belief that Halo 5 digital sales were much closer to half of units than the 20-25% GameStop is suggesting."

Wouldn't suprise me, this isn't a single player only game that people will trade in.

Even single players games start having big digital numbers. Disgaea 5 was tracked around 26k in US by NPD while in game data showed 50k connected total unique players since launch at the start of november, so about 50% digital too.

Feels like digital sales grew overnight.

Are people actually arguing for 50% digital? Halo 5 the new minecraft boyz...

I guess we should start assuming all games are 50% digital now. Uncharted NDC 50% digital, oh wait that would make more sense. Since 50% of a small number is doable, while 50% of 1.5m is ridiculous.

Call of Duty 50% digital, if a hyped up gaming is coming out which offers best in class MP, its a good chance people are going to get it digitally cause they won't worry about having to trade it in down the line.

50% digital? hahaha Oh my, that's ahh quite the "source" there. It's probably Timdog on Twitter.

Wrong, wrong. Disgaea 5 statistics are worldwide, not only US.

You know the game was released in japan since a long time, right ? And in Europe ? The online part of the game is not region locked, you can find players from others country and play their maps.

LOL! This is really sad man.Just let it go. The numbers are not even bad. It's just not what MS and fans expected as Halo has obviously declined significantly. The game will still sell well and be profitable so why be delusional about the digital sales? As mentioned the digital sales MS is talking about are the digital copies of the game with the bundle. That is included in the 1.46 total sales or whatever. Halo must be the only game to have such high digital sales according to the defenders where every other game mostly has physical sales.LOL!

So some people are still hanging on digital sales with the hope that halo 5 sales haven't under performed or sold below expectations compare to its predecessors. Guys it doesn't matter how you slice it, even if the game sold very well, it's in fact below expectations.

Can you show ONE post claiming what you are saying?

Well since this is the first time digital sales has been brought up so much to defend a game sales makes me think the reason behind it.  One of the reasons I came up with is that some believe digital sales makes up for the difference, otherwise why bring it up so much digital sales since halo 5 retail numbers came out?.  Add to that some arguing about the possibility of digitL sales being out of the ordinary compare to similar games inspired me to make the comments I made just in case my assumption was true.  If everyone is already clear halo 5 is below expectations then who care if digital sales is above or.below digital ratio, the game already sold good enough FW.  Don't see the need to bring up digital sales so much becAuse everybody know digital is more popular now than last gen.

Well, the very premise of the thread is an analyst claiming close to 50% digital sales of Halo 5, kind of explain the focus on digital :). Also, MS's press release along with Gamestops analysis obviously increase the discussion about how big the digital share was. It seems we are getting different information all around, and therefore these threads and posts pop up.

Lets just wait til the end of the year when Microsoft will tell us halo sales like they did for halo 4.

I'm confused by your response.

Are you saying VGChartz is wrong about Bloodborne?
Are you saying Sony is lying about Bloodborne doing 2 million with digital numbers?

I'm using the information available to us.

you are using estimates, that have proven to be wrong time and time again, as a fact to try prove your point.

VGC shows Bloodborne at 1.5 million as of november. Sony says it sold 2 million as of september. VGC must be right and spot on. no way they could possibly be undertracking it.

@Bolded: im honestly questioning how serious you are when you ask questions like that.

I'm just going with the number Sony claim. They published the game and have the digital sales info. If you say they're lying, well I don't know your sources.

Either way, you're being overly aggressive considering my source is Sony themselves. So chill the fuck out.

You're using a reliable source and try and put it into context with a very unreliable source.

There is more information available to us. Not just VGC.

The game sold 152,567 physical retail copies within the first week of release in Japan,[90] ranking first place within the Japanese software sales charts for that particular week.[91] Bloodborne debuted at number two in the UK software retail chart, behind Battlefield Hardline by 22,500 units.[92] In North America, Bloodborne was the second best selling software in March, despite being released at the end of the month.[93] By April 2015, the game had sold over one million copies,[94] and as of September 2015, the game has reached over 2 million copies sold.[95] Sony stated that the game's sales exceeded their expectations.

The Witcher 3 Sales Split Is 30% PC, 70% Console So Far

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had the biggest UK release of the year so far, crashing Battlefield Hardline’s week one sales by 53 per cent. 63% of physical sales were on the PlayStation 4, followed by 32% on the Xbox One and 5% on PC. The majority of PC sales were digital though.

Since you like doing math. Do it and tell me why a console only should have digital sales of 30% and more?

Well VGChartz claims Bloodborne did 1.5 million. But it apparently passed 2 million a while back with digital.

Going with that, its not crazy to believe Halo 5 could do 700K in digital numbers. But still well below the more successful Halo launches.

Bottom line, its dumb to think Halo 5 just did 1.4 million. We know digital accounts for a lot as well especially for its success with online play.

Call me a smartass but... if you're refering to the topic, than the digital number isn't 700k. It'd be near 1.4 mio. If a total of 1.4 mio retail makes half of the total sales, than the other half must be closer to 1.4 mio. than to 700.000.

Hunting Season is done...
