Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 5 : "Industry sources support our belief that Halo 5 digital sales were much closer to half of units than the 20-25% GameStop is suggesting."

Dude you should see the 343 fanboys posting on 343 forums. They literally think Halo5 is smashing records.

Gamestop CEO or whoever announced the game made $119 million, the $400 million number is a cover-up for not merely disappointing sales, but terrible sales. Everyone who has paid any attention to game sales, console sales. Digital ranges from 10-25%. 25% is the absolute best case scenario. Xbox Userbase is 15 million, and 343 has destroyed the franchise, so it's not like we are going to see some record breaking attach rate. VG Chartz and everywhere else is reporting 1.4m retail sales worldwide for week1. That means including digital Best case Scenario is 2million copies.

At this rate Halo5 will not outsell Halo1. And might barely outsell Halo:MCC.

So some people are still hanging on digital sales with the hope that halo 5 sales haven't under performed or sold below expectations compare to its predecessors. Guys it doesn't matter how you slice it, even if the game sold very well, it's in fact below expectations.

First week WW sales:
halo 3: 3.81
halo 4: 3.66

The numbers that we got from NPD and UK are:

US: 935k with bundles
Uk: 150k
Total: 1,085m

If vgchartz estimate is close to real numbers at retail, that means that the rest of the world numbers (countries that xb1 has barely userbase) are:

1.5m-1.085m=415k for the rest of the world

I am having a hard time believing the rest of the world numbers considering xb1 userbase elsewhere but I guess those numbers comes from the 28% ratio allocated to those countries based on prior halo's. Assuming 1.5m is in fact what halo 5 sold FW at retail WW

1.5m * 1.20 (20%)= 1.8m
1.5m * 1.30 (30%)=1.95m ( digital ratio above average)
1.5m * 1.40 (40%)=2.1m (way above average)
1.5m * 1.45 (45%)=2.18m (way way above average)
1.5m * 1.50 (50%)=2.25m (unreasonable)

It doesn't matter how you slice it, halo 5 sold way less than halo 3 and halo 4 FW. Sure halo 3 had more days in their first NPD but if you allocate somes sales to cover for those days, it still doesn't make up for the difference. Waiting for any MS numbers regarding to digital sales is a waste of time because everyone know it's not gonna happen. When there are numbers unfavorable that can be compare with other numbers, MS have a tendency of hiding those numbers (I'm looking at you xb1) so let leave it at halo 5 sold very well but it's not what it used to be and move on.

Halo had a massive decline since Halo Rearch/Halo 4. Halo Reach/Halo 4 sold less than Halo 3 despite having a much bigger install base by the time the games were released. Halo 5 just seem worse due to being the first one to be released on new hardware after Halo 3. Halo 3 really benefited from having no competition.

Also let's get something clear. Since Reach came out, and 343 started making Halo games. The Fanbase has left in the millions. This isn't just franchise fatigue, this is a terrible studio making terrible games, on top of making terrible decisions like adding Microtransactions. They've also shipped us broken games like MCC. So nothing here is shocking, if anything 343 has some terrible Karma and it's playing itself out via Sales. I would say the same for EA with Battlefront, their shipping $20 worth of content.

I find the bolded to be the most likely. Do bear in mind that Halo 4 sold what it did on a userbase over 6 times the size of the current one. Also, again, Halo 5 did release only 5 days away from the end of the month. All other Halo 3 have 3M data AFTER having been 3 weeks in the market and for Halo 4, it had Black Friday...

I will wait until November is over to conclude whether Halo 5 lost it or didn't...

Franchise fatigue son. If you really think the install base is the problem then why was it outsold by Black Ops 3 first week, and almost by Fallout 4, first week with both being multiplatform titles?

Same reason why the older Cod out sold Halo Reach / Halo 4. More popular games. The only games that are more popular than Halo this year it seems is Cod for Xbox. The only other AAA game that is more popular than COD and Halo is GTA on Xbox. Top 3 overall isn't too bad is it now?
