Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 5 : "Industry sources support our belief that Halo 5 digital sales were much closer to half of units than the 20-25% GameStop is suggesting."

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-5-star-wars-battlefront-assassins-creed-syndi/1100-6432535

To summarize this article, gamestop claims that Halo 5 and Starwars battle front sales were underwhelming and that digital sales should only make up 25 percent the total sales of the video games. However, industry analyst Doug Creutz of Cowen & Company issued a note to investors stating this isn't true and goes on to say this "Industry sources support our belief that Halo 5 digital sales were much closer to half of units than the 20-25% GameStop is suggesting."  Wouldn't suprise me, this isn't a single player only game that people will trade in.

this is literally based on speculation.

for those who want to believe halo 5 magically has a 50% digital sales ratio excluding the two LE packages and the Halo 5 bundle, which all come with a digital copy, go ahead and do so. but this is based on some "analyst" and his "sources".

as for the OP. in the same article GAMESTOP says halo 5 digital sales are in line with other releases. and that it under performed at retail. but way to go at adding that. certainly not trying to spin anything.

I don't think anyone expects 50%.

There is no way that the normal high of 20% increased that much. That'd have to be a new digital AAA attach ratio record, and Microsoft would made sure we all knew just how hight the attach ratio was.

Lol people need to learn to accept the fact that the halo era is over. The game didn't sell as well as people had hoped and now we're going at ridiculous claims of 50% digital sales. That would be 34.5 million GB worth of downloads just for the digital users, or 3450 times the library of Congress. Something this large would certainly be mentioned by MS.

They're wrong, it's clearly 90% digital sales. Best selling game ever.

Ah, Pachter and his analysts friends, always ready to say anything to exist.

So a company that sells games vs an industry analyst? Patcher also is an "industry analyst" come on.

Unless Microsoft release sales figures (spoiler alert: they won't, for obvious reasons) we will never know for sure but I'd trust gamestop over an analyst.

Yeah, sorry, no.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

The analyst said "We" as in the company. Also, there are sources stating this was the best-selling digital game ever in the Xbox Store for an opening week. That is better than the average 20-25 percent for sure. Here is the source. https://news.xbox.com/2015/11/04/halo-5-guardians-biggest-halo-launch-in-history/

Well VGChartz claims Bloodborne did 1.5 million. But it apparently passed 2 million a while back with digital.

Going with that, its not crazy to believe Halo 5 could do 700K in digital numbers. But still well below the more successful Halo launches.

Bottom line, its dumb to think Halo 5 just did 1.4 million. We know digital accounts for a lot as well especially for its success with online play.
